 PARENT INFORMATION 

School Portrait orders extended until November 30– It’s not too late!  Your proofs have been mailed to your home which includes your personal access code to view and order your student’s pictures online. Meeting the deadline ensures everyone receives their School Portraits before the holidays. Do you have old cell phones and printer cartridges?  If so, you can turn them into the Eastview High School Main Office.  This program has been a great way to generate resources for our school while recycling old cell phones and printer cartridges.

 

Harassment and Bullying:  “What Parents Need to Know” James Backstrom, Dakota County Attorney, will present a Perspectives on Parenting forum tomorrow night at 7:00 pm at Falcon Ridge Middle School in Apple Valley.  Mr. Backstrom will discuss harassment and bullying from a legal perspective and he recommends steps to be taken by parents and students when bullying takes place at school. To underscore this important issue, in a recent survey about thirty percent of ISD 196’s middle and high school students report being bullied or harassed at least once a month.  Mr. Backstrom has spoken to over 12,000 people in our communities about this topic and is considered an expert in the field.  This event is sponsored by area middle and high schools. All are welcome to attend this free event.  CEU’s are available.


The next Nordic Ski Team Booster Club meeting will be held on Sunday, December 2, beginning at 6:30 pm., at Eastview High School, Room C250.  Parents of all Nordic team members are invited to attend.

 

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                                              

The District 196 Community Education Aquatics Program offers training for jobs in Aquatics. The American Red Cross Lifeguarding for Pools and Waterparks course, for ages 15 and up, will be held Saturdays from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm and Sundays from noon to 6:00 pm. on December 1, 2, 8, and 9.   Visit our website at http://www.district196.org/ce/pdf/LifeguardTraining.pdf for further information. COLLEGE AND SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION                                                                                        

Seniors!!!  The Burger King Scholarship application is available at www.bk.com/scholars   Criteria to apply include working  part-time on an average of 15 hours a week anywhere, involved in community service activities and demonstrate financial need.  See Guidance Office for further information.  Applications are available online thru February 15.

 

Students interested in the U.S. Naval Academy Navy ROTC or are invited to attend an informational meeting at the 934th Airlift Squadron’s Officer’s Club this evening from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.  Several local graduates from this area currently attending the Naval Academy will be available to answer questions.  Pick up an informational flyer in the Guidance Office if you are interested. 

 

A representative from U.S. Air Force Academy will be in the Career Center on Monday, November 26 during 2nd hour.

 

A representative from Argosssy will be in the Career Center on Monday, November 26 during 6th hour.

 

A representative from the Army National Guard will be in the Career Center on Tuesday, November 27 during 5th hour.

 

Attention Seniors:  College applications with December 1 – January 1 deadlines should be submitted by tomorrow.   Applications with a January 15 deadline should be submitted by December 10.  Please contact Mrs. Gerrits or your counselor for any questions.

 

ATHLETIC ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                                                                

Ever dreamed of making a game winning shot or bringing the crowd to its feet with an amazing play? IM Basketball sign-up are in the Main Office. Games are played on Monday and Wednesday evenings. The cost is $70. Spots fill up quickly, so sign-up with Ms. Beckmann in the Main Office! See Mr. Kelly if you have any questions.

         

If you were unable to attend the Boys Soccer banquet, your awards, certificates and photo CD’s are located in the Main Office with Joan Beckman -as are their yellow release cards.

         

Nordic Ski Team Hosts Annual Pancake Breakfast Sunday, 12/2
The ISD 196 Nordic Ski Team will host their annual pancake breakfast next Sunday, December 2, from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., at the American Legion in Apple Valley, located at 14521 Granada Ave.  Tickets are available from any nordic skier, or at the door for $6.00.  Thanks for your support - hope to see you there!


All Boys Swimmers and Divers; please meet in Room B329 immediately after school. We will leave to go to the pool after the meeting.

 

SPORT SCORES                                                                                              

The Lightning Girls Varsity Basketball team won their season opener over a tough White Bear Lake squad 78-50.  The Lightning built an 11 point halftime lead and never looked back.  Brittnye McSparronn led the Lightning in scoring with 18, with Sam Mehr contributing 14 and Brittany Rud 10.  Cassie Shepppard played well at both ends of the floor, snagged 8 rebounds. The Lightning begin Lake Conference play and the defense of their Conference title at home Tuesday against the Burnsville Blaze. Thanks for the great fan support on Saturday, come on back on Tuesday!  We appreciate your support! 

 

ARTS AND ACTIVITIES                                                                                           

There will be a short meeting for Business Professionals of America members to make contest selections and gather contest information and samples this week.  Two meeting options:  Wed. 11/28 after school in C239 and Thurs. 11/29 at 7:00 a.m. in C239.  Attendance at one of the two meetings is MANDATORY.

Fiddler on the Roof Preview Show Tickets Available NOW!  You can avoid the lines and order tickets now for the Tuesday, December 4, 7:00 pm preview showing of Fiddler on the Roof.  All seats are just $5.  Just click on the following link for the order form, complete it and return to the EVHS Main Office.  Tickets will be pulled on a first come, first serve basis and can be picked up from the Box Office after November 29. Thanks to all the people that donated reuseable items to LEAP for bridging and the Salvation Army!  We collected about 25 paper boxes full of items!

The vaunted Eastview Math Team heads to Burnsville tonight for their second meet of the season.  All Mathletes should be ready to head out the West doors by 2:50 today.

 

There will be a meeting for all SADD members on Wednesday, November 28, at 7:00 am in Room A101.  We will be making arrangements for all of our December activities.  Please contact a leader if you will not be there.

It’s time to polish your submissions for Voices, Eastview’s award-winning literary arts magazines. The staff will accept submissions of poems, stories, artwork, photography or other creative works. Get a submission form from your English teacher or Art teacher. The next deadline for submission is January 9.
