 PARENT INFORMATION 

Harassment and Bullying:  “What Parents Need to Know” James Backstrom, Dakota County Attorney, will present a Perspectives on Parenting forum on Tuesday, November 27 at 7:00 pm at Falcon Ridge Middle School in Apple Valley.  Mr. Backstrom will discuss harassment and bullying from a legal perspective and he recommends steps to be taken by parents and students when bullying takes place at school. To underscore this important issue, in a recent survey about thirty percent of ISD 196’s middle and high school students report being bullied or harassed at least once a month.  Mr. Backstrom has spoken to over 12,000 people in our communities about this topic and is considered an expert in the field.  This event is sponsored by area middle and high schools. All are welcome to attend this free event.  CEU’s are available.

COLLEGE AND SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION                                                                                        

Seniors!!!  The Burger King Scholarship application is available at www.bk.com/scholars   Criteria to apply include working  part-time on an average of 15 hours a week anywhere, involved in community service activities and demonstrate financial need.  See Guidance Office for further information.  Applications are available online thru February 15.

 

A representative from Metropolitan State University will be in the Career Center today during 3rd hour.

 

A representative from College of St. Catherine will be in the Career Center today during 4th hour.

 

A representative from U of MN-Morris will be in the Career Center today during 6th hour.

 

Students interested in the U.S. Naval Academy Navy ROTC or are invited to attend an informational meeting at the 934th Airlift Squadron’s Officer’s Club tomorrow evening from 7 to 9 pm.  Several local graduates from this area currently attending the Naval Academy will be available to answer questions.  Pick up an informational flyer in the Guidance Office if you are interested. 

 

A college student from Virginia Tech and their ROTC program will be in the Career Center tomorrow at 7:30 am.  The student is a 2007 graduate of Eastview High School.

 

ATHLETIC ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                                                                

A reminder to all Boys’ Basketball players in grades 10-12 - Preseason weight testing will take place this week Monday-Wednesday in the Weight Room.  Be sure to have your weight testing completed during this time frame.  See Coach Gerber with any questions.

 

Any Boys’ Basketball players who participated in the pre-season t-shirt fundraiser, the shirts and shoes are in.  Please stop in and see Coach Gerber to pick up your shirts and shoes.

 

A reminder to all 9th Grade Boys’ Basketball players to report to the Team Room for tryouts with your participation card at 4:30 pm this evening.

 

Ever dreamed of making a game winning shot or bringing the crowd to its feet with an amazing play? IM Basketball sign-up begins today in the Main Office. Games are played on Monday and Wednesday evenings. The cost is $70. Spots fill up quickly, so sign-up with Ms. Beckmann in the Main Office! See Mr. Kelly if you have any questions.

Girls Cross Country -. The banquet will be tomorrow with food being served at 6:30.

         

If you were unable to attend the Boys Soccer banquet, your awards, certificates and photo CD’s are located in the Main Office with Joan Beckman -as are their yellow release cards.

         

All Wrestlers are reminded to get their registration card from the Main Office and get their body fat measured from the Training Room.  Practice begins today at 6:20 am for sophomores, juniors, & seniors.   Freshman practice begins at 2:45 pm in the Wrestling Room.

 

SPORT SCORES                                                                                              

Congratulations to your Eastview Competition Cheerleaders! Both Varsity and JV took 1st place as they hosted the TC Open yesterday. Both performances were outstanding! Way to go girls!

 

Congratulations to Bridget Moran and Ashley Spear for making All State Cheerleading as they competed on Saturday at St. Thomas. Way to represent our school girls!

 

Congratulations to the Girls Swimming and Diving team for an excellent season and a great performance at the state meet.  At state Brianna Denny placed 15th in diving, the 200 Medley Relay of Andrea Chvatal, Madelinn Tipler, Kayla Hutsell and Hayley Trace Placed 14th, Andrea Chvatal placed 11th in the 100 Backstroke and Freshman Kayla Hutsell placed 3rd in the 200 Individual Medley and 4th in the 100 Butterfly earning All-State honors in both events.  Hutsell’s time in the 100 butterfly also earned her All-American honors.   

 

ARTS AND ACTIVITIES                                                                                           

Reminder to choir students and parents:  Poinsettia pick up is tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday) between 2:30 and 5:00 in the Choir Room.

 

FCA goers, we will not be meeting at the Placeway's tonight.  We are going to see the movie “Bella” at the Carmike in Apple Valley.  The movie starts at 7:15, so plan on being there around 7:00 or a little before.  Hope to see you there.  It you have questions, see Marissa Vossen or stop by the Guidance Office.

 

Fiddler on the Roof Preview Show Tickets Available NOW!  You can avoid the lines and order tickets now for the Tuesday, December 4, 7:00 pm preview showing of Fiddler on the Roof.  All seats are just $5.  Just click on the following link for the order form, complete it and return to the EVHS Main Office.  Tickets will be pulled on a first come, first serve basis and can be picked up from the Box Office after November 29. There will be a story idea meeting for the Lightning Press tomorrow before and after school in Room C234.  Everyone is welcome.

It’s time to polish your submissions for Voices, Eastview’s award-winning literary arts magazines. The staff will accept submissions of poems, stories, artwork, photography or other creative works. Get a submission form from your English teacher or Art teacher. The next deadline for submission is January 9.
