SPORT SCORES

The Lightning Varsity Baseball team completed a season sweep over Eden Prairie over 7-4.  The Lightning used a 6 run sixth inning to put the game out of reach.  First Basemen Ben Wagner led the charge with 3 hits and Pitcher George Jensen went the distance to pick up the win.  The Lightning are back in action tonight at Chaska for a 7 PM start.

JV Baseball:  Mark Gauger pitched 3 “shut ‘em down” innings as he overpowered and fooled a very strong Eden Prairie team. He enjoyed a 1-0 lead until they got to him in the 4th for 4 runs on 4 hits. A finger injury forced him to be pulled off the mound and Taylor Augustin and a feverish Scott Wobschall finished the game admirably. The final score was 11-3 as the Eden Prairie bats exploded for lots of hits during the later innings, including 2 homeruns. Several errors extended their innings and they took advantage of our moments of weakness to blow us out as the game progressed. We didn’t have many timely hits but we did load the bases twice, regretfully scoring only 1 run in the process. Peter Zukanoff and Matt Lilledahl each had multiple hits again today.  We play Chaska Thursday and Kennedy Friday. Both games are 4:15 on the varsity diamond.

The 9A Baseball team had their 9 game winning streak stopped with a 12-1 loss to Eden Prairie.  Sam Higgins provided the bright spot with a strong outing in relief.

The 9B Baseball team defeated Eden Prairie 9-7 on Wednesday to bring its record to 9-2.  John Melzarek pitched 4 great innings and Garrett Runing came in for the save.  The team was incredible on offense with Corey Woods going 3 for 4 with four stolen bases, Austin Lindquist hitting a homerun and Stu Daly hitting a 2-run walk-off homer to win the game.  It was a team effort on defense as well.  The boys rallied in the 7th inning to pull off the win for the 2nd game in a row.  They are on a nine game winning streak and they play Chaska at home today.

The Lightning Boys Varsity Golf team traveled to Braemar Golf course yesterday and came away with a 3 shot victory over Farmington and Holy Angels. In the 12 hole match Junior Chris Kotosky earned medalist honors with a 4 over par 51. Right behind him, making a nice birdie on the final hole was Danny Gengler, who finished at 5 over. Other contributing scores were posted by Jared Larson and Sam Rauchwarter.

The Varsity Softball team couldn’t get the engines started against Woodbury yesterday and fell 6-0.  The Lightning fell behind early 2-0, and managed to keep it close until the 6th inning, when Woodbury exploded for four runs.  Eastview, however, was unable to mount any sort of threat against the Royals’ pitching staff.

The JV Softball team is back on the winning track after a 5 - 3 victory over Woodbury.  The Lightning scored one in the 1st inning and four in the 2nd with hits by Sophie Williams and singles from Kelly Meyer, Megan Glockner, Christine Hanuman, and Cassidy Peterson.  Glockner and Hanuman picked up hits in the 6th, but left the bases loaded without scoring.  Sara Griffith picked up the win and recorded 8 strikeouts and Errin McIsaac did a tremendous job keeping the book.  The Lightning are back in action on Friday at home against Rosemount.

The Sophomore Baseball team lost 5-1 to Eden Prairie on Wednesday.

The Varsity Tennis team played with a lot Heart and played at a high level against the #6 ranked Eagles of Eden Prairie coming up on the short end of the score losing 4-3. Outstanding play from Evan and Jon, Kevin and Rohit, and Josh and Vadim Come out to our Last Home match Friday against Burnsville as we try to secure 2nd place in the Lake Conference

In the Boys Track & Field meet yesterday Frank Veldman came off the IR list to tie the school record and place 1st in the High Jump.  Ryan McCormick placed 1st and Third in the 110 and 300 hurdles.  Matt Karnick placed second in the Pole Vault.  The 4x100 relay of (Furey, Burrows, Jacobson, Telkov) placed third.  Team results weren’t complete yet.

Congratulations to a strong and deep Girl’s Varsity Track team. They won the Region True team meet over the nearest competitors from Prior Lake and Apple Valley. Performances by all athletes made the team victory possible. Way to compete!  The Girls will compete in the State meet next Friday at Stillwater.
