Student Absence Call-in Information:

For a Full Day Absence, please use the attendance line in the voicemail system.    

    * 651.683.6969 extension 98677 or 98678 (please note the extension is a change from previous years)

    * If you call in for your student by 1:00 pm you will not need to send a note the following day.

For all other attendance issues (late arrival, messages to students, etc.)  please call the Attendance Office at 952.431.8921 or 8922.

 

Volunteers are needed at the North Door Welcome Desk tomorrow afternoon (11:00-1:45) and morning of Friday, May 9 (8:15-11:00. Please contact Paula Zeilon at pcnews@charter.net   It's not too late to become a new volunteer!

 

STAFF APPRECIATION DAY - Wednesday, May 14
Volunteers are needed to arrange food trays and deliver them to the staff offices beginning at 6:45 am until 9:30.  Meet at the North Doors that morning.
If you would like to donate a food item, we are asking for: Bars, cookies, muffins, breakfast breads, bagels and cream cheese, fruit (washed, cut-up and ready to serve), snack foods, etc. to be dropped off at the upper/north entrance doors between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m. on May 14.  Volunteers will be available to pick up your donations "curbside”. Monetary donations will be used to purchase juice and paper items.  You may send a check to the office made out to 'EVHS PAK' placed in an envelope marked "Staff Appreciation". EVHS Introduces B.O.L.T.S. 2008Building Our Learning Throughout Summer!

We are building on our traditional summer programs by offering a series of elective-credit academic camps focusing on enrichment and skill development.  Check out our BOLTS 2008 Registration Guide, with course descriptions (13 courses available, from each of the four core content areas as well as several elective areas), session scheduling (four different sessions running from June 23 – July 24), and registration information (register online!).  These camps and courses are tuition-based, with financial aid available.  Contact Jodi Hanson – EVHS Student Services (952.431.8920 or jodi.hanson@district196.org) with questions or for more information.

COLLEGE AND SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION                                               

Juniors and Seniors!!  If you are interested in the healthcare field, you have an opportunity to spend 2 full days in a hospital setting accompanying a physician on their hospital rounds, watch actual procedures as they are being performed and questioning medical students and residents.  The course is July 31 thru August 1 and the cost is $150.  Students are accepted on a first-come first-served basis.  Pick up a packet and registration from in the Guidance Office.

 

Deadline registration for the June 14 ACT test is Friday, May 9.  Registration for the June 7 SAT test is May 6.  Students may register on line for the ACT test at www.actstudent.org and www.collegeboard.com for the SAT test.  Registration packets are also available in the Guidance Office.

 

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                

Students who have not received their Q3 report cards can pick them up the Guidance Office.  Report cards will not be mailed home.  Parents and students can also access their report cards from their student/parent portal.  

 

Would you like to enrich your children’s lives?  Help them make an international friend?  Give them a summer to remember?  Host a French student this summer!  There are many students who still need host families.  You provide room and board, include them in your regular summer activities and get an incredible experience for your family.  Students are coming in three groups: June 16-July 17, July 8-28 and July 9-28.  An informational meeting will be held Sunday, April 27 in Bloomington.  If you are interested in hearing more, please contact Mary Kuettner at mary.kuettner@district196.org .  

 

ATHLETIC ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                                                               

The Eastview Cheerleaders are participating in the Pahl's Market fundraiser that starts May 12-June 1. If you have plans for doing some gardening, planting of flowers, flower baskets, landscaping, please be sure to mention the Eastview Cheerleaders when checking out at Pahl's Market located right here in Apple Valley. A portion of the sales will be donated to the Cheerleaders! We really appreciate your efforts!!

 

Auditions for the 2008-2009 Lightning Dance Team will take place next week, May 12-15 in the Main Gym here at Eastview. Registration starts at 3:00 pm on Monday and the tryout workshop will go from 3:30-6:00 pm each day. Questions??  Please see Coach Mahr in the Dance Studio or Coach Gerber in the C2 office.

 

The Boy's Lacrosse Senior Night will be held tomorrow.  EV is playing Kennedy at 6:30 pm in the stadium.  Parents of seniors should arrive at the field by 6:00 pm as there will be a short ceremony at 6:15 pm prior to the start of the game.  Mothers, please wear your son's away jersey (blue) and Dads, please wear something EV if you have it.  Questions, please contact Lynn Freeman at 651-452-6123 or Joan Burke at 952-322-5055.

 

Attention all EVHS Boys interested in playing Varsity Soccer next fall- There will be a short informational meeting today at 2:30 pm in B125.

The Girl’s Track and Field team will be selling Gerten’s Plant Cards. Each card sells for $25 and can be used to purchase plants at Gerten’s. They do not expire. Nordic Ski Team Galaxy Car Wash Fundraiser - Saturday, May 10:  Need a spring clean up on that dirty vehicle?  Getting ready for Prom? Plan to stop by the Galaxy Car Wash in Apple Valley for a Nordic car wash for your vehicle, brought to you by the ISD 196 Men and Women's Nordic Ski Team.  Hours of operation will be 10:00 am. to 2:00 pm.

 

Any athlete not involved in a spring sport is invited to attend Speed Development every Tuesday and Thursday.  Meet at 2:45 outside the Weight Room.

 

LIVESTRONG Day is the Lance Armstrong Foundation's one-day initiative to raise awareness and funds for the cancer fight. LIVESTRONG Day 2008 will occur on Tuesday, May 13.  Everyone is encouraged to wear yellow that day.  From 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm on the fields to the East of the stadium you will find Eastview's own initiative to celebrate National LIVESTRONG Day (in case of inclement weather, the event will be in the Commons).  There will be a silent auction, cancer educational materials, Apple Valley's own Minnesota Swarm player, Colin Achenbach will be in attendance, and donations will be accepted on behalf of the Lance Armstrong Foundation.  At the Boy's Lacrosse Section Playoff game that evening, local musician, Tim Mahoney will be singing the National Anthem.  The Lacrosse Players will be wearing yellow socks!  We hope to see you there!  For more information, please call Lynn Freeman at 6 51-452-6123. 

 

SPORT SCORES                                                                                              

The 9B Baseball team defeated Burnsville 2-1 on Monday to run its record to 8-2.  Devin Dickson pitched a complete game and also had a bunt that scored the winning run, Sean Devine and John Melzarek led the offense with the only two hits and runs, and Erik Edsten was a defensive machine at second base.  The boys are having a great season and are on an eight game winning streak.  They take on the Eagles of Eden Prairie tomorrow at home.

 

The Boys Varsity Golf team had a solid 4th place finish at the Chaska Invitational on Monday shooting a 304. Leading the way for the Lightning was senior captain Johnny Greene with a season best 2 under par 70. Other scores included Max Tylke, 77; Drew Bjordal, 78 and Kyle Nesheim, 79.

 

Congratulations to the Boys JV Golf team on their convincing victory yesterday at the 16 team Prior Lake Invitational at Stonebrook Golf Club shooting a school record 305. Leading the way for the Lightning was tournament medalist Sophomore Tony Companion shooting a season best 74. Freshman Max Tylke continued his strong play with a 75. Rounding out the scoring were Sam Rauchwarter and Chris Kotosky with 78’s and Freshman Max Smith with a 79. Great Job guys!!

 

Yesterday, two more Eastview Girls Golf teams played in the Eastview JV Golf Invitational held at Parkview.  The main JV team captured third place out of fifteen teams – an excellent overall result!  Scoring for the Lightning and placing 7th overall was Caitlin Ochtera.  Also scoring were Laura Appleton, Chelsea Ochtera, Jenny Chamberlain and Dannie Erickson.  JV play continues on Thursday against Apple Valley and Burnsville at Parkview Golf Course.

 

Last night the Varsity Boys Lacrosse team defeated Burnsville with a score of 16-5.  Leading the lightning were Andy Freeman and Neil Lindner both with 5 goals.  Tomorrow they take on Kennedy at home at 6:30.

 

The Freshman Softball team lost at Rosemount High School on Tuesday in a rain shortened game by the score of 5-1.  The team next plays on Thursday at home with Benilde High School.

 

ARTS AND ACTIVITIES                                                                                          

EVHS Book Club will be meeting on May 15 at Barnes and Noble in Apple Valley at 7:00 pm. We are reading Jodi Picoult’s Plain Truth. New members are always welcome. Hope to see you on May 15!

  

Eastview National Honor Society is hosting an Etiquette Brunch on Saturday, May 10 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in the EVHS East Commons.  The cost of this event is $25 per person which includes instruction from Etiquette Coach Angelyn Davis, who was recently featured on NPR and a wonderful meal catered by Rascals of Apple Valley.  et*i*quette [ET-i-kit] n conventional code of conduct or behavior.  Ms. Davis will address etiquette in a variety of situations including making a good first impression, formal and informal dining, and business etiquette.  For students this is a great opportunity to ready them for a formal dinner before prom or to begin making a good impression when applying for a job or making a college visit. For adults this is a great opportunity to brush-up on your business etiquette, socialize with friends, and certainly serve as a role model for young people to follow. The event is open to everyone; attire is business casual (no jeans or shorts please).  Tickets are available from the EVHS Main Office or can be purchased during lunch in the Eastview Commons beginning Monday, May 5.  Get together with your friends, have a nice meal and develop these important social skills!  All proceeds will benefit the Eastview NHS Scholarship Fund.

Pahl’s Market Fundraiser begins in 5 days!  While shopping at Pahl’s between May 12 and June 1, please remember to mention the EVHS Speech Team.  Pahl’s will donate 10% of your total purchase to the team.   Members of the Speech Team will be competing in the national competition in June and your support is very much appreciated!  Thank you.
