SPORT SCORES

The Lightning Varsity Baseball team defeated Eagan 17-2 and has scored 33 runs in their last two games.  The offense was led by Catcher Joe Peters who had 4 hits and 3 RBI’s.  On the mound, Pitcher Nick Dolsky collected his 6th win and state leading 65th strikeout of the year.  The Lightning will be in action tomorrow at home against Bloomington Jefferson.

The JV Baseball team defeated Eagan 4-3 on Monday. Blake Hagen spread out 7 hits and gave up only 3 runs. He had excellent control of his pitches and was mentally tough as he worked out of trouble in the 6th to notch the victory. Joel Bertelsen  and Sam Foy had great defensive days and Joel was once again integral to the scoring and hitting. Jack McDevitt launched a 2-run homerun for the cause and called a great game behind the plate. Andy Gench had a great day at the plate, collecting 2 hits and scoring a run. His double late in the game should have been a triple with an RBI but the umpire, using his x-ray vision, saw it differently.

The 9A Baseball team lost to Eagan 3-1.  Tom Jerle pitched well, but the offense couldn’t put a rally together against a tough pitcher and a tougher wind.

The 9B Baseball team defeated Eagan 7-6 on Monday in a nail biter.  The boys bailed their coach out of a batting order "snafu" that cost the team 2 runs in the 5th inning.  It was a team effort with pitching having 4 different guys help out.  Austin Lindquist had a strong start with Scottie Sikich and Sean Devine helping out in the middle innings.  Stu Daly did well coming in to close out the game.  The team was led on offense by Tyler Velin with 2 stolen bases and 3 runs, Corey Woods with 2 hits and 2 runs, and Sikich with a bunt single, 2 stolen bases, and a run.  John Melzarek led the defense with great play at catcher including one laser throw out at 3rd base, and Erik Edsten with a nice unassisted double play at 2nd base.  The boys continue to roll, winning their 11th straight game, bringing them to 11-2.

The B Squad Girls Lacrosse team traveled to Eden Prairie Saturday for a tournament. The team played hard despite the rain with one tie against Maple Grove and 3 close losses Kennedy 2-1, Edina 3-2 and Apple Valley 3-1.  Congratulations to Lauren Grotkin with 2 goals, Caitlin Scott 2 goals, Bri MacDonald 1 goal, Ashley Holte one goal and Sophie DesLauriers with 2 assists.  It was great team effort by all with solid defense by Laura Campbell and Rachel Hauser and many great saves by Haley Krumm.

The Varsity Softball team traveled to Eagan to take on the Lake conference leaders yesterday.  A two-run homerun by sophomore Lindsay Spanton put Eastview up early, but Eagan roared back with 6 runs in the next inning, and went on to win 8-2.  Eastview celebrates senior day tomorrow at Lightning Stadium against Kennedy, and finishes the regular season Thursday against Park Cottage Grove.

The Lightning JV Softball team had trouble getting their offense started and fell to Eagan by a score of 7 - 1.  The Lightning had the bases loaded in the first inning with no outs, but couldn't score and only managed 5 hits off an effective Eagan pitcher.  Carlie Wagner doubled in the second and Sophie Williams scored the only run in the seventh inning.  The Lightning are back in action on Wednesday against Kennedy in the last home game of the season.

The Freshman Softball team defeated Eagan on Monday in 6 innings by the score of 14-4.  Solid pitching by Paige Palkovich as well as timely hitting by Rachel Spika, Ashley Nelson, and Taylor Sharp were integral in the victory. The team record now stands at 9-7.
