Student Absence Call-in Information:

For a Full Day Absence, please use the attendance line in the voicemail system.

    * If you call in for your student by 1:00 pm you will not need to send a note the following day.

Girl’s Track and Field -There will be a required parent and athlete meeting on Tuesday April 1 at 6:00 pm in C350.

 

The Booster Club for the Eastview/Apple Valley Girls Lacrosse team will be holding a parent meeting on Wednesday April 2 from 5:30 pm till 8:00 pm in the Recreation room at Hayes park. This is in the Senior building between the hockey arena and main park building. Enter the south door. All parents of girls planning on playing in the spring are requested to join us.  Coach Garnet will join us after practice at 6:00 pm for questions and answers. The first two practice's for Lacrosse will be held at Hayes arena on Friday March 28 from 11-1 pm and Monday March 31st from 3-5 pm.. All girls must sign up at school and have a physical on file with the school before being allowed to participate. Remember the week of the 24th is spring break so don't wait until then to sign up. Please do it this week. If you have any questions see Captains: Kaitlyn Gherity, Caitlin Hart, or Lindsey Day.   

 

Perspectives on Parenting announces the last College Planning Seminar of the year: College Planning for Grades 9-11” has will be held on Wednesday, April 2 at 7:15 pm in the EVHS Performing Arts Center.  A panel of college admissions representatives from 2 and 4-year private and public colleges and universities will present a broad overview of the college admission process.  This panel presentation will follow the District 196 Minnesota Educational College Fair to be held at Eastview on April 2 from 4-7 pm.

 

District 196 will host a Minnesota Education Fair (MEF College Fair) sponsored by the Minnesota Association of College Admission Counselors (MACAC).  The MEF College fair will be held at Eastview High School on April 2 from 4-7 pm.   Approximately 100 public and private colleges and universities, community and technical colleges, proprietary schools and military organizations will be represented at Eastview.  This is the first year that District 196 has hosted this event.  This regional college fair event gives students and parents an opportunity to explore a variety of options for post-high school education, technical training or military service.  Students and parents are able to visit with the representatives, ask questions and obtain literature about the schools and organizations. A list of participating colleges, trade and career schools and military organizations can be found on the MACAC web site at www.mn-acac.org.   Click on “College Fairs”, and then “For Students and Parents”.  Admission to the college fair is free.  The hours of the fair are from 4:00 pm. to 7:00 pm.

Senior Parents:  Class of 2008 Senior Party Memory Wall – Entry extended until April 1.  We are creating a memory wall that will be displayed during the party and we need your help.  Please create a personal message from you to your senior, include your student name and a 50 word max message and e-mail it to Sandy Sauve at Ssauve@charter.net

 

The Eastview Wrestling team is currently selling lawn and garden fertilizer.  Item #1 is Crab Grass Control - $17, Item #2 is Weed & Feed - $15, Item #3 is Lawn Fertilizer - $15, Item #4 is Garden Fertilizer - $12.  Generally, the average size yard will take 2 bags per application.  Please contact an Eastview Wrestler or Coach Kurt Habeck @ kurt.habeck@district196.org to place an order or receive more information.  Orders due by March 31.   Products will be delivered to your home beginning April 10.

The District 196 Community Education Aquatics Program will offer classes over spring break, Tuesday through Friday, March 25-28 at Black Hawk Middle School. A Lifeguarding course will be offered for ages 15 and up. Water Safety Aide is a class designed for youth, ages 13 and up who would like to be employed to help teach swim lessons. Water Safety Instructor is a class for ages 16 and up that would like to teach Red Cross swim lessons. Do you have any outgrown prom dresses?  Any gently used shoes, shawls, jewelry or purses that would be good for prom?  If so, please consider donating to Operation Glass Slipper, a charitable organization created for girls’ right here in the twin cities who cannot afford dresses for prom.  For more information, check out their website at www.operationglassslipper.org.  If you are interested in donating to this worthy cause, there will be a drop-off box located in the Main Office through Friday April 4.

 

Registration is open for 8th hour classes offered during the fourth quarter of the 2007-2008 school year.  These 8th hour classes are a part of our extended day program that provides students an opportunity to recover credit lost from a course they attended during the standard school term.  Registration forms are in the guidance office.  The registration deadline is Monday April 7th, 2008.  A brief description of the course offerings and attendance date/times are listed below.  Any other questions may be directed to the program coordinator Thomas Sharp at thomas.sharp@district196.org

 

Eastview will provide after school make-up classes from Tuesday April 15 to Thursday June 5 for students wishing to earn English, Math, Social Studies, Science, or Wellness credit towards graduation.  A Basic Standards Test preparation course is also available for elective credit. The classes will be for make-up credit only; course availability is dependent on class enrollment.  There is no cost for these classes.  This program is only open to Eastview High School attendance area students.  Classes will run Tuesday through Thursdays beginning at 2:30 pm and ending at 3:50 pm.  Classes will be worth the equivalent of a one-quarter course or .75 credits. 

 

COLLEGE AND SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION                                                                   

Materials Camp at a U of MN –Twin Cities is June 10–14.  Juniors and sophomores interested in learning about the materials engineering field are encouraged to attend.  It is free and applications are online at http://www.mnasm.org/camp/  and are due March 30.  Teacher recommendation is also required and to be completed online.  See Guidance Office for further information. 

 

Juniors - If you are interested in political science and the government process, you are invited to participate in the Boys State Program in Marshall, Minnesota  June 15 thru 21.  Please pick up an application in the Guidance Office.  The deadline is April 11. 

 

A representative from Michigan Tech will be in the Career Center on Thursday, April 4 during 4th hour.

 

The following scholarship application deadlines are  approaching:  Southview Elementary March 23;  Falcon Ridge March 30, Roger Thompson March 31.  Seniors, check the scholarship list regularly in Family Connection and/or the Guidance Office website at

Seniors – don’t forget that your application for any Eastview Community Foundation scholarships are due Tuesday, April 1 to the Guidance Office.  Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity!  There are 85 scholarships available!  See Ms. Mathews in the Guidance Office for materials or visit www.evcf.org for all the information you need, including the application form.

 

ATHLETIC ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                                                      

Reminder to Boys Lacrosse players: Spring sport registration must be completed with Joan Beckman by today, before the first day of the season Monday, March 24.  All players must bring the purple sport card to coach to be eligible for the season.

All Boys Lacrosse players should be registered by today in order to practice throughout Spring Break. The 95 dollars should be turned into the Main Office.

 

First day of Tennis tryouts will be Monday March 24, we will meet at Apple Valley Arena at 2:45 pm make sure you have your participation cards with you. Times and places of tryouts for the balance of spring break will be given out on Monday. If you are unable to attend please contact Coach Olsen 612-802-4929

 

Girl’s Track and Field practice over spring break will be held for all athletes but pole vaulters at 8:30 am on M, W and F and at 10:00 am on T and Th.

For vaulters, practice will be at 4:00 pm on M, Th and F and at 5:00 pm on T and W.We will meet for all practice in the area by the Weight Room.

 

There will be an informational meeting for Intramural Golf on Wednesday, April 2 in Room A 207.  Please see Mr. Frost if you have any questions. 

 

SPORT SCORES                                                                                     

The Girl’s Track and Field team had a great night at the St Johns time trials, with top finishers in each of the events. There were many outstanding performances by the incoming freshman class, with the returnees posting great marks and many performing better than last year at the same time. Congratulations on your great effort. We are all looking forward to a fun and successful season.

Attention sophomores and juniors – if you are interested in applying to become a member of Eastview’s National Honor Society, please examine the information and application materials which can be down-loaded from the Eastview web site.  The links are located on the Main Page under the heading “Eastview News.”  All NHS applications are DUE by April 1 – no extensions, no exceptions.  Please read the materials carefully to make sure you are eligible.  If students have questions they should speak with Mr. Beach in person, not via email.  His office is C338.
