Student Absence Call-in Information:

For a Full Day Absence, please use the attendance line in the voicemail system.

    * If you call in for your student by 1:00 pm you will not need to send a note the following day.

There will be a parent meeting for those parents who have kids interested in playing Baseball this spring.  The meeting will be held in C350 at 6:00 pm tomorrow.

 

Eastview National Honor Society invites you to our final Eastview Dialogues event of the school year.  The topic is “Religion in our Country” and this event is a panel discussion featuring five religion scholars from the Twin Cities representing the five major religions.  Attached is the program for the event with bio information for each of our panelists.  The event is this evening beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Eastview Performing Arts Center – admission is free and the event is open to the public.  We hope to see you there!

 

Perspectives on Parenting announces the last College Planning Seminar of the year: College Planning for Grades 9-11” has been RESCHEDULED to Wednesday, April 2 at 7:30 pm in the EVHS Performing Arts Center.  A panel of college admissions representatives from 2 and 4-year private and public colleges and universities will present a broad overview of the college admission process.  This panel presentation will follow the District 196 Minnesota Educational College Fair to be held at Eastview on April 2 from 4-7 pm.

Senior Parents:  Class of 2008 Senior Party Memory Wall – Entry extended until April 1.  We are creating a memory wall that will be displayed during the party and we need your help.  Please create a personal message from you to your senior, include your student name and a 50 word max message and e-mail it to Sandy Sauve at Ssauve@charter.net

 

Spring is coming- can't you see the snow melting. Plan now for your spring flowers by ordering flower pots and hanging baskets, grown by Pahl's Market, in the Eastview colors of blue, black and white. They will add beautiful Eastview colors to your summer garden and could even be used for Senior open houses! The Eastview Wrestling team is currently selling lawn and garden fertilizer.  Item #1 is Crab Grass Control - $17, Item #2 is Weed & Feed - $15, Item #3 is Lawn Fertilizer - $15, Item #4 is Garden Fertilizer - $12.  Generally, the average size yard will take 2 bags per application.  Please contact an Eastview Wrestler or Coach Kurt Habeck @ kurt.habeck@district196.org to place an order or receive more information.  Orders due by March 31.   Products will be delivered to your home beginning April 10.    

 

REVolution Diving, offered by the District 196 Community Education Aquatics Program, will begin the spring session for those interested in developing skills for competitive diving. The Tuesday/Thursday evening session runs tomorrow through May 8 from 7-8 pm at Dakota Hills Middle School. Call 651-683-6879 for more information and registration.

COLLEGE AND SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION                                                                   

Materials Camp at a U of MN –Twin Cities is June 10–14.  Juniors and sophomores interested in learning about the materials engineering field are encouraged to attend.  It is free and applications are online at http://www.mnasm.org/camp/  and are due March 30.  Teacher recommendation is also required and to be completed online.  See Guidance Office for further information.

Late registration deadline for the April 12 ACT test will continue through March 21.  The added fee late fee is $19.00.   If you have any questions, need online registration information or a registration packet, please come to the Guidance Office.

 

REGULAR registration deadline for the May 3 SAT test is March 12.  If you have any questions, need online registration information or a registration packet, please come to the Guidance Office.

 

The following scholarship application deadlines are  approaching:  T.L.C.F> Memorial Scholarship-today; Cedar Park March14; Scott Highlands Scholarships March14; American Assn. of University of Women March15;  Dollars for Scholars AXA Achievement March15;  Kohl’s Kids who Care March15;  Southview Elementary March 23;  Falcon Ridge 3/30, Roger Thompson March 31.  Seniors, check the scholarship list regularly in Family Connection and/or the Guidance Office website at  http://www.district196.org/evhs/studentservices/guidance/FinancialAid/FinancialAid.asp   Many scholarships have website applications and information on line.  However, some scholarships are paper form only and need to be picked up in the guidance office, such as the Dollars for Scholars AXA Achievement Scholarship. 

 

A representative from U of St. Thomas will be in the Career Center today during 3rd hour.

A representative from  Rasmussen College will be in the Career Center tomorrow  during 4th hour.

A representative from  Southeast Technical College will be in the Career Center tomorrow during 6th hour.

A representative from  University of Minnesota-Morris will be in the Career Center tomorrow during 7th hour.

Please come to the Guidance office for a pass to visit these representatives.

ATHLETIC ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                                                      

Congratulations to Head Coach Paul Goetz and the Eastview Girls Varsity Basketball team who are advancing to the State Tournament this week!!  They will face St. Francis at 4:00 pm tomorrow at the Target Center.  Advanced tickets will be on sale through tomorrow at 9:15 am.  They will also be available at the Target Center.  The cost of tickets for all rounds is $10 for adults and $7 for students (K-12). Gym Rat t-shirts will be available in the Student Commons during all lunches today for $15.

 

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12

Because of the 4:00 pm game time, all students will be expected to remain at EVHS for the entire school day tomorrow.  No exemption of any absences will take place.  Any students choosing to leave early with parent permission would count towards their maximum absences for Quarter 3.  Fan buses will be offered for $5 per person - IF there is enough interest.  Sign-ups will be available in the Main Office through this afternoon.  You must check back tomorrow morning to see if there is indeed a bus AND pay your $5 if their is a bus.

 

THURSDAY, MARCH 13

IF the girls win tomorrow they will play at 2:00 on Thursday at Target Center and the following scenarios will be in place:

Advanced Tickets will go on sale Thursday morning at 7:00 am and will be available through 9:30 am. All students will be expected to remain at EVHS until 12:35 pm on Thursday.  6th and 7th hour absences may be exempt with prior permission and advance ticket sale/ticket stub.  Any students choosing to leave earlier than 12:35 with parent permission would count towards their maximum absences for Quarter 3.  Fan buses will be offered for $5 per person.  Sign-ups will be available in the Main Office. Attention Boys Golfers: The first gym session for any boy interested in trying out for the boy’s golf team this spring will be today from 5:15-7:00 pm in the South Gym. Please bring a wedge, a 6 or 7 iron and a putter. A Reminder that in order to participate in tryouts you MUST have an athletic card from Ms. Beckmann in the Main Office. The second session will be Friday, March 14 from 3:15-5:00 pm in the South Gym. Bring a wedge, a driver or 3 wood and a putter on Friday. Any questions please contact Coach Wanous in the Guidance Office.

 

The final Ski and Snowboard Club trip to Welch Village will be Thursday, March 13. 

 

Congratulations to Senior Karin Nordmeyer and Junior Stuart Zeilon for receiving All Conference Awards for Alpine Skiing.  Honorable Mention went to: Captain Clinton Spohn, Sam Ferguson, Allan Newman, Captain Hannah Newman, Rachel Fischer and Annika Torbenson.  The team recognized Hannah Newman and Senior Nick Roadman as Most Improved; and Hannah Newman and Stuart Zeilon for School Spirit.  Sophomores Ally Lawrence and Ross Nygren were named Rookies of the Year.  Next years' Captains are Stuart Zeilon and Annika Torbenson.  Congratulations to all!

 

ARTS AND ACTIVITIES                                                                                           

It's Ice Show season and you're all invited to attend the District 196 Icettes annual Ice Show March 13, 14, and 15 at the Apple Valley Sports Arena.  Show starts each night at 7:00pm.  Tickets prices are $4.00 for students and $6.00 for adults.  See you at the show!

If anyone wishes to see the wind generator at SES today stop by C337 and see Ms Porterfield for car pooling. 

 

Congratulations to the Eastview Math Team for their top-10 finish in the State Tournament yesterday.  Led by senior captains Jon Hsiao and Ally Huang, the Lightning had their highest season point total in the history of Eastview High School.  At yesterday’s events, junior Josh Tollefson had a perfect score to pace the team.  Congrats also to other state team members Mark Zingler, Shirley Liao, Nishaan Pal, Tao Zhu, and Jack Overby.  Jon Hsiao was also one of the top-ten high scorers in the state on an invitational event and was invited to participate in the 2008 “Math Bowl” competition.

 

Congratulations to the following Eastview American Math Contest winners and AIME qualifiers:

2.      Nishaan Pal          

3.      Josh Tollefson   

Their scores from the AMC-12 qualify them for round-2 of this nationwide exam series.  

And congratulations to sophomore Collin Erickson for being Eastview’s high scorer on the AMC-10 

 

There will be a Prom Committee meeting for all members tomorrow morning at 7:05 am in C139.  

 

There is a SADD meeting for all members tomorrow morning at 7:00 am in Room A101.  Please let a leader know if you can not attend.

 

Table Tennis registration information can be picked up in the Main Office from Mrs. Beckmann or in Room B127 from Mr. Harvey. 

 

Yearbook members are scrambling this week to complete the final deadline for the “big book”. We need more photosplease help! Send your labeled submissions to yb.evhs@gmail.com and include as many different people as possible. Thanks for your participation!
