PARENT SECTION                                                   

Perspectives on Parenting presents Challenging Adolescent Behaviors: Successful Problem-Solving Strategies within Your Family” at 7:00 pm, Monday, February 4 at Falcon Ridge Middle SchoolMary Sheedy, Kurcinka, a former ISD196 parent educator, nationally recognized speaker, author of 4 books on parenting and a parent of 2 grown children will speak about the challenges of raising teenagers and understanding adolescence.  Mary will give sound, common sense ideas to develop successful problem solving strategies within your family.   The presentation will include tips for building the relationship that keeps your teens working with you—even during the tough times.

 

Parents: It’s that time of year again to show your student how very much you care! Send them a VAL-O-GRAM at school on February 14. FCCLA is selling flowers, chocolate pretzels, and chocolate covered rice krispie bars to be delivered to your child 7th hour on Valentine’s Day. DP applicants:  DP candidates for next year should pick up their letters in the Main Office after school on Thursday

 

The Apple Valley Police Department is taking applications for you to join the Police Academy.  You have until February 1 to apply.  You can experience interesting knowledge on how law enforcement works.  See Diane Mathews to sign up!


COLLEGE AND SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION                                                                   

LATE registration for the February 9 ACT test is thru Friday.  Register at www.actstudent.org.

 

Junior Girls!!!!  The American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring the Minnesota Girls State program at Bethel University the week of June 8 thru 14.  This is a great opportunity for young women who are interested in the functions of Minnesota government.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.

 

Seniors!!!  The Minnesota Masonic Charities Signature Scholarship application is due February 15.  Five scholarships are awarded for $5,000.00 renewable for up to $20,000 for up to four years.  See Guidance Office for an application.

ATHLETIC ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                                                      

The 2008 Futsal Tournament registration forms are now located in the Main Office.  Do you like to place soccer?  Do you like tournaments?  If so, find some friends and make up a team for this Saturday of Futsal! 

 

SPORT SCORES                                                                                              

The 9A Boy's Basketball team ran their winning streak to five in a row with on victory over Nicollet Jr. High Tuesday night 71-63.  The win improves the Lightning's record to 17-4 overall and 7-3 in the conference.  Eastview lead at half 53-32, but saw the lead slowly fade to only five points with three minutes to go.  Some awesome team free throw shooting(20/28) save the win down the stretch, Shane McSparron 7 for 7, Lethzee Calderon 3 for 3, and Andre Hunt 6 for 8.  Leading the way for the Lightning were Shane McSparron 15 pts., Lethzee Calderon 13 point and 7 rebounds, Andre Hunt 13 points and 6 rebounds.  The Lightning travel to Lakeville South on Friday for another conference match-up.

 

The Varsity Boys Hockey team came home with a shutout (Ryan O'Shea in nets) Tues. night beating Chaska 7-0.  EV started the scoring just 2 1/2 minutes into the first period  (Vig fromTrombley and Kleven) and never looked back.  Freidman from Schweiger and Chacich scored next just a 1/2 minute later.  And one minute later the third goal was scored by Larson from Maloney and Perry.  Cory Fienhage added the 4th goal of the period ( from Budweg) at the 5:00 minute mark.  That ended  the scoring in the first.  Ryan Anderson ( from Gorski) got the second period rolling at 3:26 and at the 9:00 minute mark Larson (from Smith) got the 6th goal of the game.  EV's Larson ( from Maloney and Smith) added the 7th (for a hat trick) and the final goal of the game at the 14:00 minute mark of the third period.   The Lightning outshot Chaska 36-22.  The team travels to Ames Arena on Saturday afternoon - 3:00 pm game - to take on Lakeville North.  Thanks to all the fans that have been attending the games and showing support!

 

ARTS AND ACTIVITIES                                                                                           

Plan now to attend the second annual Coffee Commotion: This Saturday East Commons. Admission is only $4.00 for an evening of music and fun.   

 

The Annual NHS Dodgeball Tournament is coming up February 7 at 7:00 pm.  Sign up and register your team during lunch starting this Monday, the 28. It's $10 a person and six players on a team. There are prizes for categories like best team costume, and this year Dodgeball t-shirts will be on sale for everyone. It's a double elimination tournament, so get a team together to dip, dive, and dodge!

 

Eastview National Honor Society, in recognition of Black History Month is excited to present Ms. Nancy Giles to speak on Monday, February 11 beginning at 7:00 pm in the Performing Arts Center.  Ms. Giles is a regular contributor to the CBS Sunday Morning television program and an accomplished journalist.  Admission is FREE and open to the public; we hope that you can join us!  Please use the link to learn more about Ms. Giles: http://www.roycecarlton.com/speakers/giles.html
