 PARENT INFORMATION 

Perspectives on Parenting is sponsoring a seminar on “College Financial Aid (FAFSA, Loans, Scholarship and Grants)” on Thursday, January 24 at 7:00 pm in the EVHS Media Center.  A financial aid expert will help you and your student understand the college financial aid process.  This is a seminar that all seniors and their parents should attend. 

 

Senior parents—work shop for senior posters is tonight from 7-8 pm in the Student Commons.  We have examples of past posters to help spark your ideas.  We will also walk you through the simple skills it takes to put together an awesome poster.   There will be two other workshops on Tuesday, February 12 and Saturday, March 15.   More information about the senior party:  http://www.isd196.k12.mn.us/evhs/people/parents/srparty/

 

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                           

Congratulations to Eastview seniors Johnny Greene and Hannah Newman for being named Eastview High School’s nominees for the AAA Award in 2007-08.  Established in 1988, the Academics, Arts, and Athletics Award (Triple "A" Award) is sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League. The award is to recognize and honor high school seniors who have excelled in the classroom, on the athletic field, and in the fine arts.  To be eligible for the Academics, Arts, and Athletics Award at Eastview High School a student must be a high school senior, have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher, participate in League-sponsored athletics and fine arts activities and comply with the MSHSL's Student Code of Conduct and be nominated by a staff member.  Triple "A" Award recipients are selected by a multi-level process involving the League's member schools and administrative regions. League officials will announce the four award recipients (a girl and a boy from both a Class "A" and Class "AA" school) at an on-court recognition ceremony held on Saturday, March 29, 2008. Each award recipient will receive a four-year $1,000 scholarship.

 

The Apple Valley Police Department is taking applications for you to join the Police Academy.  You have until February 1 to apply.  You can experience interesting knowledge on how law enforcement works.  See Diane Mathews to sign up!


COLLEGE AND SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION                                                                   

LATE registration for the February 9 ACT test is thru Friday.  Register at www.actstudent.org.

Regular Registration for the March 1 SAT test is January 29.  Register at www.collegeboard.com

Junior Girls!!!!  The American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring the Minnesota Girls State program at Bethel University the week of June 8 thru 14.  This is a great opportunity for young women who are interested in the functions of Minnesota government.  Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.

 

A representative from Central Lakes college will be in the Career Center tomorrow during 2nd hour.

 

ATHLETIC ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                                                      

IM Basketball games will be played on Monday, January 21 (MLK Day). Games resume next Monday. See the IM Board in the commons or find Mr. Kelly if you have any questions.

 

The 2008 Futsal Tournament registration forms are now located in the Main Office.  Do you like to place soccer?  Do you like tournaments?  If so, find some friends and make up a team for a Saturday of Futsal

 

SPORT SCORES                                                                                              

Eastview Gymnasts edged out Lakeville North, JV 124.65 to 124.55, Varsity 139.725 to 132.175.  Way to show how tough you are girls!  Gwen Nelson, Jill Muehlbauer, and Grace Nelson all competed well in their first meet.   Kjirsten Jacobson did some amazing tumbling on the beam, earning a score of 9.6!  Kjirsten Jacobson, Erika Ellingsen, and Jessie floor, and placed 1, 2, 3 in all around.  Congratulations!

 

The Girls Varsity Hockey team traveled to Rosemount on Saturday for another important conference matchup and left with a 3-1 victory. Scoring for the Lightning were Meaghan Brigl (2G), Laura Gengler (1G), Christine Fries (1A) & Emily Snodgrass (1A). Lindsey Kauchick made 15 saves for the Lightning.

On Tuesday the team traveled to Minnetonka to play the Hopkins Royals. The Lightning came up short in a 4-1 loss. Meaghan Brigl scored the lone goal for the Lightning, with assists from Christine Fries and Emily Snodgrass. Alicia Freeman made 18 saves for the Lightning. The Girls travel to Lakeville on Saturday to play Lakeville North. Game time is 3:00 at Ames Arena.

 

Karin Nordmeyer a senior at EVHS placed 1st out of 80 Alpine Skiers in the conference meet on January 15 at Buck Hill.  This is Karin's first medal this year and more are to come.....stay tuned!

 

The Boys Swimming and Diving team had an outstanding performance Tuesday night defeating Eden Prairie.  The victory was lead by the seniors Matt Polum, Dan Gengler, Nate Riha, Mike Placeway and Jon McDonald.   Jon McDonald also electrified the crowd by setting a new pool record.  The team competes this weekend at the True Team Sections.

 

ARTS AND ACTIVITIES                                                                                           

Best Buddies will meet in Room C250 at 2:30 only tomorrow.  No morning meeting due to a group picture to be taken.  Please be there!

 

Eastview Dance Department presents “Works in Progress”! Come out and see what the students have choreographed this quarter!  We got everything from a 70’s mix to a dance with Umbrellas!  Also featuring performances by the Lighting Dance Team!  And a musical review of “Big Spender” and “Bring on the Men”!!! tomorrow at 7:00 pm in the PAC! ALL Tickets $5.00(You can also purchase tickets in the Dance Studio from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm through tomorrow.)

 

FCA is having a fun day on Monday.  We'll be starting at Lindsey Day's house for outdoor skating (dress warm) and then heading inside for some Guitar Hero.  At 6:30 Rosemount High School is hosting their annual FCA Movie Night in the RHS Student Center.  Bring a pillow or chair to sit on, they will be providing pizza and pop.  Stop by the Guidance Office for details on both events.

 

LEAP will be meeting in C337 today to put up dryer signs.  We will save snowshoeing until the weather warms up.  Everyone is welcome. 

 

The 2008 Minnesota State High School Ping Pong Team Championships will be held on Sunday, January 20 from 10:00 am to early evening at the Life Time Fitness club in Bloomington. Cost is $100/Team. Registration form will be available at www.tabletennismn.com within the next couple of days. To all Student Council Members and those interested in Relay For Life: The Relay for Life of Apple Valley has started its planning process.  Relay for Life is designed to make people aware of the issues of cancer and resources available for people who have cancer and to raise money for research for cures for cancer. On December 18, several students from EVHS and AVHS and SES met to start planning for the June Relay.  The Relay will be held on June 27 and the goal this year is to have 25 teams and raise $45,000.  Last year we raised $20,000 at the Apple Valley event. Meetings will happen every month on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at EVHS (February 19, March 18, April 15, May 20 and June 17).  You don’t have to be able to come to every meeting to be part of the planning for the Relay.

 

Anyone interested in participating in the 2008 High School Envirothon on May1 must contact Ms. Porterfield this week.  A short informational meeting will be held tomorrow in C337 at 2:30 pm.  If you can not attend please contact me by stopping by with a note containing your email or phone number or email me on the district website this week. The envirothon is a team competition in wildlife, forestry, aquatics, soils, and current events regarding Minnesota and the world.
