SPORT SCORES

The Lightning Girls’ Varsity Basketball team hosted a non-conference game against a spirited Roseville team and came up with their 20th win of the season.  Roseville came out and played an excellent first half which ended with a 2 point, 32-30 Lightning lead.  Early in the second half the Lightning extended the lead but could not really pull away from a determined Roseville squad.  The game ended with a 76-59 Lightning win.  Brittnye McSparron led the Lighting offensive attack with 23 points with Danae Moore and Sam Mehr contributing 15 and 11 points respectively.  Rebounds were hard to come by with Cassie Sheppard pulling down 5 and Brittnye McSparron snagging 4.  Danae Moore created many turnovers with her quick hands to help the Lightning defensive effort.  The Lightning return to Lake Conference action on Friday, with a home game against Apple Valley as they look for a win which will guarantee at least a tie for the Lake Conference Championship.  Be there, we appreciate your support!  Go Lightning!

Congratulations to the Gymnastics team for a super season!  The girls did well in their last dual against Lakeville South.  Some highlights for JV: Melanie Nelson again scored high on the vault, and also led the team along with Hailee Tsurusaki on the beam.  Nikki Russell contributed an extraordinary funky beam routine for her last senior performance.  The JV got their highest team score of 127, but not enough to beat Lakeville JV of 131.  The Varsity team highlights include Jessie Huff’s 9.125 on the bars and Kjirsten Jacobson’s 2nd place all-around.  The Varsity will compete in the Sections meet at Apple Valley Feb 15.  Be sure to go cheer them on!  A special thanks to your leadership and teamwork seniors, Erika Ellingsen, Kjirsten Jacobson, Nicole Russell, and Natalie Ostrander.  We’ll miss you!

The Varsity Boys Hockey team took on crosstown rival Burnsville last night and played as good a game as they have thus far but came up short losing 4-2.  The first period ended scoreless -Lightning out shooting the Blaze 11-6.  EV came out ready for the second getting the first goal at 3:27 of the period. (Larson from Maloney and Perry).  About 3 minutes later, with a man in the box, Maloney scored the second, shorthanded, putting the Lightning up 2-0.  Burnsville answered back twice before the period ended. In the third Eastview had some chances but B'urnsville kept coming at them and got 2 more putting the final at 4-2.  We out shot the Blaze 32-27.  Senior goalie Tyler Krob manned the nets. Thanks to all the fans who came out to show support for the team!!!  The Lightning take on Jefferson on Saturday afternoon at Apple Valley Sport Center.  Game time is 2:15 pm.

The Girls Varsity Hockey team lost to a tough Eagan team 4-1 Thursday. Scoring the lone goal for the Lightning was Laura Gengler with assists to Emily Snodgrass and Courtney Kukowski.
