Perspectives on Parenting announces the last College Planning Seminar of the year: College Planning for Grades 9-11” has been RESCHEDULED from Thursday, March 6 to Wednesday, April 2 at 7:30 pm in the EVHS Performing Arts Center.  A panel of college admissions representatives from 2 and 4-year private and public colleges and universities will present a broad overview of the college admission process.  This panel presentation will follow the District 196 Minnesota Educational College Fair to be held at Eastview on April 2 from 4-7 pm.

If you are an Eagan resident, you may apply for the Eagan Foundation Scholarship at http://www.eaganfoundation.org/  The completed application must be postmarked by tomorrow and the applicants will all be notified around mid-April.

Attention sophomores – IF you are registered for AP European History for the 2008-09 school year AND you are interested in going on the annual spring break trip to Europe, please attend a meeting on Thursday, March 6 beginning promptly at 7:00 am. in Lecture Room C250.  Registration information about the 2009 trip will be shared.  This meeting is for students only; if parents have questions after March 6 they may contact Mr. Beach.

 

COLLEGE AND SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION                                                                   

Juniors!!  Registration for the April 12 ACT test is March 7.  

 

Minnesota Zoo Career Days is on March 11.  Students interested in science careers including zoo keeping, animal handling, veterinarian, etc. are highly recommend to attend.  Register online at mnzoo.org   The cost is $30.  Further information can be picked up in the Guidance Office.   

 

Materials Camp at a U of MN –Twin Cities is June 10–14.  Juniors and sophomores interested in learning about the materials engineering field are encouraged to attend.  It is free and applications are online at http://www.mnasm.org/camp/  and are due March 30.  Teacher recommendation is also required and to be completed online.  See Guidance Office for further information.

The Dakota Electric Washington, D.C. tour for June 14 thru the 19th still has openings for students. Students can pick up information in the Guidance Office or go to http://www.dakotaelectric.com/youthdc.aspp . We have had students attend in the past and highly recommend the experience.

 

ATHLETIC ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                                                      

There will be an important preseason meeting for anyone interested in playing Baseball this spring.  Attend a meeting in C250 today at 2:45 pm.  See Coach Strey if you have any questions or are unable to attend the meeting.

 

Girls Golf meeting:  March 4 3:00-4:00 Room C250. All girls’ planning to try out for the girls’ golf team this spring should e-mail Coach Boldus to receive a registration packet before the meeting.  Please have all forms completed and turned in by March 7.  boldus@charter.net or Robert.Boldus@district196.org

 

The final Ski and Snowboard Club trip to Welch Village for Thursday, March 6 has been rescheduled for the following Thursday, March13 due to parent / teacher conferences. 

 

All Boys Swimmers and Divers the final team meeting of the year will be held in Room B329 today at 2:35 pm.  Please bring your uniforms to turn in and come prepared to vote for team awards. 

 

There will be a meeting for all boys interested in playing Tennis tomorrow after school in Room C250.  Everyone who wishes to take part in captain’s practices should turn in $20.

 

A reminder to all Softball players – Please complete paperwork through the Main Office prior to practices beginning next week.  If you have any questions or concerns please stop in to see Coach Haugh as soon as possible.  The first practice for all 9th grade players begins at 6:45 pm on Monday, March 3.

 

SPORT SCORES                                                                 

The Lightning Girls Varsity Basketball team had to battle to come up with a 49-36 win in the first round of Section 3 play.  After a slow start the Lightning built a 13 point 28-15 halftime lead.  In the second half the Lightning could just not put away the Cougars, finally outlasting them to get the 49-36 win.  Brittnye McSparron led all scorers with 17 points, with Sam Mehr scoring 14.  Brittany Rud and Cassie Sheppard each snagged 5 rebounds in the win.  The Lightning now move to the semifinals with a 6:00 game at St. Olaf against Apple Valley on Saturday.  Thanks to the great fans last night, come on down to St. Olaf as we meet cross town rival Apple Valley.  Go Lightning! 

 

ARTS AND ACTIVITIES                                                                                           

There will be a short meeting for the Investment Club on Monday, March 3 at 7:00 am. in Room C239 to pick up fundraising information.

 

LEAP will meet at 2:30 today in C337 to finish working on informational service projects related to Habitat Conservation and biodiversity.  Everyone is welcome!

 

Eastview National Honor Society is sponsoring the annual Red Cross Blood Drive which will be held on Tuesday, March 4 throughout the school day in the south gym.  Students who are at least 17 years of age and weigh at least 110 pounds are encouraged to register as a donor in the East Commons during lunch.  Give the gift of life and register to be a donor today!
