PARENT SECTION                                                   

Parents:  We need a volunteer to greet at the North Door. We are looking for help for am (8:15-11:00) shifts on February 22, 25, and 29.  Please contact Paula Zeilon at 952-423-7142 or pcnews@charter.net  if you can help!  New volunteers are welcome.

 

Boys Lacrosse Player/Parent Meeting - Wednesday, February 27 – 6:30 pm - C250.  In 2 weeks, Boys Lacrosse will be having a mandatory player/parent meeting for all prospective players of the upcoming spring season.  If a player cannot attend due to an Eastview activity, attendance of a parent is still requested.


SENIOR SECTION                                                    

If you are an Eagan resident, you may apply for the Eagan Foundation Scholarship at http://www.eaganfoundation.org/  The completed application must be postmarked February 29 and the applicants will all be notified around mid-April.

Senior Party Raffle

The Senior Class Parents are running a raffle to help with the senior party expenses.  Tickets are $5.00 and will be sold in the Commons during lunch today through Friday.  The drawing will be held at the end of the day on Friday, February 15.  All proceeds will go to help fund the senior party.  Buy a raffle ticket and you could be going to your senior party for FREE!!!

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                 

Got Career Plans?   Sophomores and Juniors….now is the time to apply for the Mentor Program.  Applications are available in the Guidance area or on the window of C138.  See your counselor or Mrs. Huhner for more details.

 

COLLEGE AND SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION                                                                   

Seniors!!!  The Minnesota Masonic Charities Signature Scholarship application is due February 15.  Five scholarships are awarded for $5,000.00 renewable for up to $20,000 for up to four years.  See Guidance Office for an application.

 

Juniors!!!  If you are interested in government affairs, the Dakota Electric Washington, D.C. Tour in June 2008.  Applications are due February 18.  Go to http://www.dakotaelectric.com/youthdc.asp for further information and the on-line application. 

 

Juniors!!  Registration for the April 12 ACT test is March 7.  

 

Minnesota Zoo Career Days is on March 11.  Students interested in science careers including zoo keeping, animal handling, veterinarian, etc. are highly recommend to attend.  Register online at mnzoo.org   The cost is $30.  Further information can be picked up in the Guidance Office.   

 

Materials Camp at a U of MN –Twin Cities is June 10–14.  Juniors and sophomores interested in learning about the materials engineering field are encouraged to attend.  It is free and applications are online at http://www.mnasm.org/camp/  and are due March 30.  Teacher recommendation is also required and to be completed online.  See Guidance Office for further information. 

 

ATHLETIC ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                                                      

Congratulations to the Lightning Dance Team on qualifying for the State Tournament again this year in BOTH divisions!!  As a result of the team qualifying here is the plan for students planning to attend the tournament:Students with a permission slip (. http://www.district196.org/evhs/DanceTeamPermissionSlip2008.pdf or at the Attendance Office) will be allowed to leave EVHS on Friday, February 15th at 12:40 p.m. to attend the MSHSL State Dance Team Tournament at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.  The qualifying competition for Class AAA begins at 2:15 p.m. and is expected to conclude around 4:30 p.m.  This absence may be counted as a school authorized absence for 6th and 7th hours ONLY, which does not count toward the maximum absence policy, by bringing the ticket stub from the Friday afternoon session AND your permit to leave form to the Attendance Office on Tuesday, February 19 before 7:30 a.m.  If the ticket stub is not returned the absence from 6th and 7th periods will count as a verified absence and WILL count toward my student’s maximum absence policy for quarter 3.  Any absences prior to 6th hour may be verified, but will not be exempt except for Varsity and JV Dance Team members

 

There will be a fan bus to the Xcel Center for Friday’s State Dance Team Competition.  The cost is $5 per person leaving EVHS at 12:45 and returning after the Jazz Finals are complete (approximately 10:00 pm).  In order to be eligible you must ride the bus both ways.  If interested please sign up in the Main Office before 3:00 pm tomorrow. 

 

There will be an informational meeting for all Boys interested in playing Golf this spring on Wednesday, February 20 at 2:35 in Room C250. Topics of discussion include information on the tryout process, pre-season practice, team expectations, etc. If you cannot make the meeting please see Coach Wanous in the Guidance Office after Februray 20 for tryout information.  Golf season officially begins on March 10.

 

Eastview has been chosen to participate in the School Spirit Bracket Challenge.  64 schools will meet head to head until one school can claim the title. All athletes interested in joining the Girls Track and Field team should attend one of the following team informational meetings:  February 19 in Room C250 at 2:30 pm OR February 20 in Room C250 at 7:00 am.

SPORT SCORES                                                                                              

The Boys Varsity Basketball team lost to Eden Prairie last night 65-56.  The loss drops the team record to 13-5 on the season and 9-4 in the conference.  Next game is this Friday at Lakeville South.

 

The Boys JV Basketball team kept their undefeated record at home intact and improved to 14-3 on the season with a win over Eden Prairie. Leading the way was Drew Bjordal with 19 points, Collin Reidlinger added 14 points for the Lightning. The final score was 52-44 The boys take on Lakeville South.

 

The Lightning Girls’ Varsity Basketball team kept their perfect conference record alive, running it to 17-0 with a 61-56 win on the road at Eden Prairie.  The win assures the Lightning of an outright Lake Conference championship. This is the second year in a row the Lightning have won the Lake Conference championship and the 5th year out of the past six.  Brittnye McSparron, the Lightning’s leading scorer, battled the flu all game.  Her senior teammates:  Danae Moore, Brittany Rud, and Cassie Sheppard picked up the slack showing great grit and leadership.  Sam Mehr scored a season and career high 21 points leading the Lightning in scoring, followed closely by Danae Moore with 17 points.  The Lightning bench played well with quality minutes from sophomore Haley Thomforde and juniors Emily Kaus and Kelsey North.  The Lightning extended their one point halftime lead to 14 but had to work hard at the end to come up with the 61-56 win. The Lightning return to Lake Conference action on Friday with a home game against Lakeville South.  At this game the five Lightning seniors:  Brittany Raymond, Brittnye McSparron, Brittany Rud, Danae Moore, and Cassie Sheppard will be honored on Senior Appreciation night. Come and show your support for this great group of athletes who have worked so hard and given so much to the Lightning Girls Basketball program.  We appreciate your support!  Go Lightning! 

 

The Competition Cheerleaders competed down at the National Championship down in Orlando, Florida over the weekend. There were 68 teams competing in the small division. Only the top 1/3 would qualify and Eastivew did an amazing performance for the preliminaries and landed themselves in the Semi Finals. The talent was competitive and our girls performed almost a flawless routine which gave them a 19th place finish! This is only the 2nd time in Eastview's history that our Cheerleaders have qualified to Semi Finals! What a great way to end the season! WAY TO GO!

 

The Varsity Boys Hockey team took on district rival Eagan last night and beat them 6-2.   Highlights of the game included Tyler Trombley scoring the first goal of the game (his first of the season) assists to Freidman and Schweiger to put the team up 1-0; and scoring his first varsity  and power play goal Joey DeRoscher -assists to his linemates Companion and Sjostrom.  The Lightning play their last regular season game Sat. afternoon at BIG arena taking on Kennedy.  Thanks to all the fans that have come out to support the team!!

 

The Boys JV Hockey team played Saturday with a loss to Bloomington Jefferson with a score of 6-1.  The only Eastview goal was from Luke Trepanier.  Last night the boys played Eagan.  The game was scoreless through the first period.  Both teams put two in the net in the second period with Eastview scoring first.  Scoring Eastview's first goal was Peter Zukanoff with an assist from Corey Hansen.  The teams second goal was from Shane Sjostrom with an assist by Luke Trepanier.  Eagan scored late in the third putting them ahead.  Eastview battled back with a final seconds scoring opportunity that just wouldn't go in the net, ending with a tough 3-2 loss.   

 

Congratulations to the The Dist. 196 Icettes Figure Skating team who won the First Place Team Points Trophy at the Frosty Blades Competition in Blaine this past weekend!! This is a wonderful accomplishment for the team.  Competiting against 22 teams from around the state the Icettes worked hard, coming from behind in 9th place at the end of Saturdays events to the Top of the podium by the end of the competition on Sunday.  This accomplishment 

 

The JV Alpine Ski team wrapped up the season with the JV Championship Meet on Monday.  Senior Nick Roadman led the boys with a 15th place finish, followed by Freshman Connor Gleason and Senior Andrew Claiborn.  Sophomore Rebekah Weidenhaft led the Eastview girls, followed by Sophomores Ally Lawrence and Kateyln Claiborn.  Last Friday, Freshman Connor Gleason led the JV boys team with a 20th place finish, followed by Freshman Luke Stennes and Sophomore Ross Nygren.  Sophomore Ally Lawrence was the top Eastview skier for the girls in 25th place, and Sophomore Katelyn Claiborn was close behind in 28th.  Great job everyone!

 

The Boys Swim and Dive team completed their duel meet season with a loss to Rosemount.  Jon McDonald scored two 1st places in the 100 Fly and the 100 Breaststroke.  On JV there were several 1st place finishes including Keaton Hewitt, Marcus Amundson, Phil Sims, John Cayton, Ian Sharp, Phil Kapalka, Matt Polum, Garrett Biddiscombe, Wyatt Spruck, and Colton Marti.   The team is looking ahead to the section meet next Wednesday and Friday.

 

ARTS AND ACTIVITIES
