for help for both the AM (8:15-11:00) and PM (11:00-1:45) shifts on February

Tomorrow and Wednesday District 196 nurses will screen all ninth graders
for vision and blood pressure. In addition, ninth grade boys will be screened for scoliosis. A referral will be
sent home to the parents of students who do not fit in the normal
range. Please remind your student to wear his/her glasses on these
days.
It is an Eastview tradition to make a poster for your

Students enrolled in the Advanced
Multimedia Class have used Adobe Photoshop to produce interior panels for display in local and express Minnesota Valley
Transit Authority (MVTA) buses.
The panels focus on themes involving school activities and transit. The
students’ artwork was reviewed by the MVTA and winning entries were selected in
the two categories. Winners were: School Activities – senior Justin
Tao; Transit – junior Donyea Cooley-White. The students received a
certificate of award, a copy of the finished bus panel, and a $25 gift
certificate to Best Buy for their efforts. This is the sixth year the Eastview
students have created interior bus panels for the MVTA.
Valentine’s Day is approaching! Girls gush over flowers. Best friends
always love a surprise. Food is always the best answer for that special guy in
your life.
It is one stop shopping for everyone during your lunch hour right here at
Eastview. FCCLA is selling VAL-O-GRAMS
during lunch until today. Order flowers and chocolate covered pretzels and rice
krispie bars with an added personal note to be delivered 7th hour on
Valentines Day.
COLLEGE AND SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
Seniors!!! The Minnesota Masonic Charities Signature
Scholarship application is due February 15. Five scholarships are
awarded for $5,000.00 renewable for up to $20,000 for up to four years.

Juniors!!! If you are interested in government affairs, the Dakota Electric
Washington, D.C. Tour in June 2008. Applications are due February

Minnesota Zoo Career Days is on March 11.
Students interested in science careers including zoo keeping, animal

Materials Camp at a U of MN –Twin Cities is June
10–14. Juniors and sophomores interested in learning about the materials engineering
field are encouraged to attend. It is free and applications are online at

and are due March 30. Teacher recommendation is also required and

Adolphus will be in the Career Center today during 4th

The Girls Track team will hold captains practices starting today.

On Friday February 8,
the Eastview
Lightning 10th Grade Boy’s Basketball team beat
their cross town rival; Apple Valley High School 66-44. This was an exciting
game with the fans enjoying a fast paced game. Karl Otto led all scorers
with 22 points. Scott Burgess came off of the bench and played great
defense. Austin Brown had 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Their next game
will be at home vs. Eden Prairie at 4:30pm. Go Lightning!!!
The 9A
Boys Basketball team had another successful weekend by winning three
out of four games. On Friday they defeated Bloomington Kennedy 65 - 42 by
controlling the boards and causing 25 turnovers. Leading the way for the
Lightning were Frank Veldman with 18 points and 8 rebounds, Lethzee Calderon
15, and Shane McSparron with 10. The next three games were part of the
Cottage Grove Tournament. Tartan was their first victory of the
tournament 52 - 48. Veldman led the way with 5 blocked shots and 15
points, Andre Hunt had 12 pts., and Shane McSparron 11. The second game
was as easy 49 - 20 win over Park of Cottage Grove. Every player got in
the scoring column, with Veldman leading the way with 20 points. The
third game was against Lakeville North ending in a one point loss at the buzzer
50 - 49. Leading the way in scoring were Veldman 15, Calderon 13, Hunt
11. Eastview record is 21-5 overall. Next game is Tuesday @ Eagan.
The 9B Boys Basketball team ran
its record to 21-5 after winning 4 games this weekend concluding with the
championship of the Cottage Grove Tournament.
Friday night the Kennedy fell victim to the hot shooting of the 9th
graders as they won 74 - 31 paced by Tray Cumber's 20 points.
Saturday was no different as they defeated conference rivals Lakeville
South and Eagan. Gavin Carleton had 18
against South and Jacob Ulrich had 12 against Eagan to lead the way. In the Championship game againt Hastings the
Boys only allowed 7 second half points to pull away for an 8 point win. Jack Yakowic led the way offensively and
defensively as he scored 10 points and played tough defense the whole game. Up next for the B teamers is Eagan on
Tuesday.
The Lightning Girls’ Varsity Basketball team kept their perfect conference record
alive, running it to 16-0 with a 63-57 win over cross-town rival Apple Valley. The win assures the Lightning of at least a
tie for the Lake Conference championship with a 4 game lead with 4 games to go.
This is the second year in a row the Lightning have won the Lake Conference
championship and the 5th year out of the past six. The Lightning came out sluggish against an
inspired Apple Valley squad, falling behind by as many as 6 point early, yet
regrouped and ended the first half with a 9 point, 34-25 lead. The Lightning extended the lead to 17 midway
through the second half, but Apple Valley kept working and kept the game
close. Brittnye McSparron led the
Lighting offensive attack with 23 points with Danae Moore scoring 15. Cassie Sheppard pulled down 7 boards and Danae Moore snagged 5. The Lightning return to Lake Conference
action on Tuesday with a road game against Eden Prairie as they look for a win
which will give them sole ownership of the Lake Conference Championship for the
2007-08 season. Thanks to all our fans and the band for their support on
Friday night. Come cheer us on at Eden Prairie on Tuesday, we appreciate

Congratulations to the Lightning Dance Team who won the
Section Championship is Jazz and placed 2nd in kick this past
Saturday. The team now advances on to the State Dance Team Tournament this
Friday and Saturday at the Xcel Center. Detailed schedule information will come
out later this week. A big thank you to all of the fans who came out to support
the team!!
The Varsity
Boys Hockey team avenged their first loss to Jefferson Saturday afternoon
by beating the Jags 6-2. The Lightning came out ready -scoring just 12
seconds into the first period off the opening face off. (Maloney from
Larson and Perry) EV add their second (Larson from Friedman) on a shorthanded
goal at the 13 minute mark. In the second period, Gorski put in the third
goal and second shorthanded goal of the game. EV's Perry added the 4th
goal near the end of the second. Jefferson scored their 2 goals in the third
but not before the Lightning added a couple of their own- the 5th by Friedman (
from Gorski) on a power play and the final goal by Larson ( from
Maloney). EV takes on the Eagan Wildcats Tuesday night at AVSC.
The JV Alpine Ski team competed
at Buck Hill on February 1. Senior Nick
Roadman led the boys team in 10th place, followed by Senior Andrew
Claiborn (12th), and Freshmen Connor Gleason (32nd) and
Luke Stennes (33rd).
Sophomores Katelyn Claiborn (37th) and Ally Lawrence (40th)
led the Eastview girls. Good luck to
everyone at the JV Championship Race today.
Attention students! It is time to start thinking about BRAVO 2008! “The Ultimate Road Trip!” Singing Auditions are this week, today
from 5-8:00 pm in the Media Center and Wednesday, February 13 from 5-7:00 pm in
the Choir Room. Sign up with Mrs. Winslow in the Main Office and pick up
the audition music and forms to be filled out. All information is at her
desk! There will be a workshop to review the audition song and learn a
movement combination on Sunday, February 10 at 4:00 or 5:00 pm in the Choir
Room. Pick which time works for you! If questions please see Ms
Sagen. Dance Auditions will be held on Tuesday, February 19 from 3:00-5:00
pm in the Dance Studio. You do not need to sign up for this audition-just
show up! Bring appropriate clothes and shoes to dance. Dances in
the show include Jazz, Hip-Hop, Tap, Lyrical, Swing, and Ballroom

LINC will have our February meeting today at 2:35 in C330, as well as tomorrow
at 7:05 in C330. We have a number of volunteer opportunities for the
month, and will be planning our participation in this year’s Hoop-A-Thon!

Honor Society, in recognition of Black
History Month is excited to present Ms. Nancy Giles to speak tonight
beginning at 7:00 pm in the Performing Arts Center. Ms. Giles is a
regular contributor to the CBS Sunday Morning television program and an

Committee meeting starting at 7:00 am sharp tomorrow and
Wednesday in C138. Be sure you bring theme ideas!
The Mission Improbable team came in 3rd place in an extremely
close head-to-head run at the Minnesota High School Robotics Tournament on Saturday. Only a few points separated
the top three teams in the 2-robot division. The sophomore Vendetta
team came in 4th in the 1-robot head-to-head
competition with their unique omni-bot design. It was an exciting
competition this year! Brian Stephenson, one of our Robotics Team
Captains, earned the Young Mentor Award, which included a $250 scholarship.
All Robotics members should plan to meet this Wednesday in the C1 Cluster for
our end-of-the-season pizza party. Please remember to bring your T-shirt
money!
