Last fall all Eastview High School 9th grade English students worked with a writer in residence.  Published author, Laurie Lindeen, spent five days in each 9th grade English classroom and shared her writing expertise.  Her residency was organized through COMPAS, whose mission is to strengthen people and communities in Minnesota by engaging them in creating art.  The COMPAS Writers and Artists in the Schools program works each year in over one hundred schools throughout the state of Minnesota.  COMPAS also publishes an annual anthology which features the best student writing from the year’s residencies. Eastview High School is pleased to announce that five of its students have been chosen to have work published in this year’s anthology Eyes Full of Sky.  These Eastview students are Sally Fifield, Liz Massie, Garrett Olson, Marty Reichert, and Teagan Riehle.  All of these students have been invited to attend the annual COMPAS Publication Celebration, which will be held at St. Paul’s Landmark Center on Saturday, December 8 at 1:00 pm.

SPORT SCORES

Congratulations to the Lightning Dance Team who won their first Lake Conference Jazz meet of the year. Come and watch the team this weekend at the Eastview Invitational. The JV team performs at 1:30 and 3:00pm and the Varsity team performs at 5:00 and 6:30.

The Varsity Boys Hockey team won a late night game over Eden Prairie last night at AV Arena.  The snow storm kept the Eagles from arriving and getting to the game going until 9:00 pm.   The Lightning came out strong anyway and scored first on a goal by James Vig (Trombley, Anderson).  The first ended 1-0.  EP rallied back to tie the game in the second, but Garrick Perry put the Lightning on top again with a wrap around goal shortly afterward.  The third period featured chances by both teams and with just 1:33 to go EP tied the game.  The Lightning weren't about to leave without the win and on the second shift of the overtime, Michael Friedman carried the puck into the EP zone, shot and the rebound found Max Smith's stick and he put it away for the OT victory! Senior Tyler Krob turned away 34 shots and made some impressive saves for the win!  Way to go Mugsy!  Thanks to all the fans who came out to support the team.  The Lightning take on district rival Rosemount, on Saturday at AV Arena at 2:15.
