 PARENT INFORMATION 

Yearbook orders are due this Friday for $70.  After December 21, the price increases to $75.  All yearbook orders are due January 31.  Yearbook orders can be dropped off in the Main Office.  Click on the below link to access and print the yearbook order form. Welcome Desk Volunteers:  We need help greeting at the North Door the morning of January 7 and 11 (8:15-11:00).  In the afternoons (11:00-1:45) we need help: January 10, 17, 24, 25, 28, 29, and 31.  Please contact Paula Zeilon at 952-423-7142 or pcnews@charter.net  if you can help.  New volunteers are welcome!

 

There will be a Boys Lacrosse Booster Club meeting today at Eastview High School in Room C350.  This meeting is for parents of prospective players for the upcoming season.  Please join us if you can.  Coach Tim Roche and the Booster Club will communicate information about the upcoming season, and proposed booster club activities.

 

Mid-Term Grade Reports for Quarter 2:  This week marks the mid-term for Quarter 2.  Expect your students to bring a hard copy report of their mid-term grades for each class home during this week.  Please plan to take a moment to discuss the grade report with your students.  Career Development students will receive mid-term grades later in their trimester. As always, you may view your student’s academic data on the Parent/Student portal accessible by clicking here.

Do you have old cell phones and printer cartridges?  If so, you can turn them into the Eastview High School Main Office.  This program has been a great way to generate resources for our school while recycling old cell phones and printer cartridges.

 

Senior Parents

Senior Party - In early November, you should have received a four page letter containing important information about the 2008 Senior Graduation Party.  The letter contained information regarding: Donations, Target Gift Registry (search under Line 1 = Eastview, Line 2 = 2008 Eastview Senior Party), Parent Volunteers, Memory Wall , 2008 Senior Party Ticket Information, Senior Posters and Senior Party Raffle/Fundraiser. Please review the contents of the letter.  If you are planning to purchase a party ticket for your senior (great holiday gift) and/or raffle ticket – please send in your money as soon as possible.  If you haven’t sent in your memory wall words for your student, please e-mail them to stevenjkulseth@msn.com.  Please consider volunteering!  Planning a party for 600 students takes a great deal of work and can only be accomplished if we have a great number of people helping.  If you are planning to volunteer to help work the party, please send an e-mail to dgoblirsch@charter.net. The Senior Party Committee is working hard to make sure that our students have a very memorable, enjoyable, alcohol free, graduation party! If you did not receive the senior letter, please send an e-mail message to Hensley138@aol.com to have one resent.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                                              

Junior students interested in applying for Developmental Psychology (DP) for your senior year: Interest meetings will take place tomorrow after school and Friday, January 1 before school in C330.  Applications are due on Monday, January 14, with interviews following.  Look for more information when we return from winter break!

You will receive over $25.00 in savings from the coupons.  Family pizza -1 topping for 6.99 or $ 5.00 off any two family pizzas are just  a few of the saving coupons offered. The cards are good at any Papa Murphy store in the US. Get you Papa Murphy card from Ms. Winslow in the main office .Thank you for bringing in some "dough" for the EVHS speech team.

Please review your Quarter 3 schedules on the Student Portal. If you believe an adjustment is necessary for your Quarter 3 schedule please make an appointment to meet with your guidance counselor.  Reasons for scheduling an appointment for a schedule adjustment include a level change (a class is too difficult for which teacher input is required), student has not met a necessary prerequisite, drop a class to add a study hall or add a required course for graduation.  Adjustments will not be made to accommodate requests for specific instructors, study halls, class periods, or lunch periods.

 

Students can pick up their Q1 report cards in the Guidance Office during lunch. Parents can also access these report cards through the parent portalReport cards will not be mailed home.

SPORT SCORES                                                                                              

The Varsity Boys’ Basketball team improved to 5-0 on the season with a 79-61 win over Apple Valley last night.  The win pushed the team to 2-0 in the Lake Conference and they remain unbeaten on the young season.  The team was led in rebounding by Michael Grinnell and Carlos Emory with 10 boards each.  Tim Hufford played a great game off the bench, sparking the team with strong defense, 8 points, and 4 assists.  Seniors Johnie Sanders and Ethan Thomforde handled the scoring load.  Sanders led all scorers with 31, and Thomforde added 20.  The Team travels to Eden Prairie on Friday night to battle for first place against the Eagles.  See you there.

 

The Boys JV Basketball improved to 3-0 on the season with a strong performance vs. Park Center. Leading at half 39-12 the Lightning never trailed and the final score was 74-40. Chris Hall led all scorers with 21 points and Andrew McLean and Drew Bjordahl each added 13 points. For the season the Lighting are averaging 72 PPG to opponents 43 PPG. The team improved to 4-0 with a win vs. Apple Valley last night. The Lightning went into the half with 27-26 lead. With 8 seconds to go Drew Bjordahl made a jumper to give them a 55-54 lead, Valley came down and was unable to convert on offense. The final score was 55-54 and Andrew McLean had 20 points, Drew Bjordahl added 15 points. For the season Andrew McLean is averaging 17.5 points per game. The boys take on Eden Prairie on the road on Friday.

 

The 10th Grade Boy’s Basketball team defeated Apple Valley high school last night with a score of 63-48.  The first half was a close game 32-28. The second half the lightning tightened up their defense and handled the ball better, which resulted in a double digit lead. Steve Denzer, Michael Radamacher, Jordan Kuhn came off the bench and played well.  The leading scorers were Isaiah Thomas and Corey Styles both with 16 points.  Karl Otto had 11 points; Austin Brown had 9 points with 10 assist and Brad Losse lead the team with 7 rebounds. Other players who have played hard were David Pearcill, Scott Burgess, and Michael Myslinski. On Friday the team will play at Eden Prarie at 4:30 and thank you for your support.

 

The 9A Boys Basketball team earned another victory Tuesday by defeating Bloomington Jefferson 68-42.  The win improved their record to 6-1 overall.  Leading the way in scoring for the Lightning were; Frank Veldman 15, Lethzee Calderon 12, Paul McWilliams 12, and Ryan Osgar 10.  Eastview will be in action again on Thursday at Cretin.

 

The 9B Boys Basketball team got back into the win column last night againt Bloomington Jefferson.  In an offensively challenging night for both teams, the Lightning won in a slugfest 18 - 12 in a shortened game due to time restrictions on the gym.  The boys next play Thursday at Cretin.

 

The Lightning Girls’ Varsity Basketball team took care of business against neighboring rival Apple Valley on the road extending a 13 point half time lead into a 81-59 win.  Sam Mehr shot the 3 ball well and ended the game with 19 points, followed closely by Brittnye McSparron with 18.  Danae Moore contributed 12 points and 7 rebounds with Cassie Sheppard getting 6 rebounds.  Sharing the ball on offense and playing intense defense contributed to the win.  The Lightning remain unbeaten in the Lake Conference at 6-0, 8-0 overall. The Lightning continue with Lake Conference action on Thursday with a home game against Eden Prairie. Thanks to our fans who did their best to liven up the Apple Valley gym.  Let's get our gym rocking on Thursday when the EP Eagles come to town! Go Lightning! 

 

Our Gymnasts performed well against Apple Valley last night.  Varsity won 133 to 127, and JV won 124 to 104.  The team score keeps creeping higher as the girls compete new skills and events.   Jessie Huff had an awesome night, throwing giants on the bars, and placing second in all-around.  Morgan Poulson and Brittany Stumpf flipped back tucks on a 4" beam.   Katia

Lundberg did bars for her first time.  Way to go girls!


Members of the Varsity Men's and Women's Nordic Ski team competed in the Lake Conference Sprint Championships on Tuesday at Elm Creek.  Special congratulations to overall champion Tyler Abery (AVHS) who placed 1st out of 56 competitors! Other strong performances were also recorded by Andy Dodds, 9th place (AVHS), Sean Dougherty 12th place (AVHS), and Nick Andresen 16th place (EVHS). Go Nordic!  The teams next race is tomorrow at Valleywood Golf Course, starting at 3:30.

 

ARTS AND ACTIVITIES                                                                                           

The December meeting of Best Buddies will be tomorrow at either 7:00 am or 2:30 pm in Room C250.  All members are encouraged to attend at either time.  See you then.

 

Intramural Bowling is starting!!!  Get your team of 4 together, see Ms. Beckmann in the Athletic Office for information sheets, pay your money and get ready to bowl on Mondays & Wednesdays after school.  Teams and money ($75/per person or $300/team) are due December 19 with bowling starting January 14 and ending February 11.  See Mr.VandeBerg with any questions. 

 

Business Professionals of America members are reminded that contest samples are available in C239.  All members should stop by C238 after school tomorrow or before school on Friday to get updated information and permission slips for regional contest on January 11.   See Ms. Lencowski or Ms. Phelps with any questions.

 

All FCCLA members need to have their Star Event information sheet, permission slip and money in to Mrs. Hendrickson and Mrs. Svaren by this Friday.  Please come to C138 if you have any questions. 

 

Limited release CD – The EVHS Music Department is selling a CD featuring musical highlights from The Quest Unending – our June 4, 2007 celebration of 10 years of Performing Arts at Eastview High School.  The CD features performances by the EVHS Wind Ensemble, Concert Choir, Men’s and Women’s Chorales, and distinguished alumni.  Selections include “Carmina Burana,Make Our Garden Grow”, and the world premiere of “Footprint”s dedicated to our principal Dick Dewey in honor of his support for the performing arts.  The CD is available for $15 from band and choir students or in the Main Office.  This wonderful music would make a unique and special holiday gift for members of the Eastview community.
