SPORT SCORES

The Varsity Boys’ Basketball team extended their winning streak to 3 games on Friday by beating Park Center 68-54.  The team used a balanced scoring attack and a strong inside game to beat the Pirates.  Grinnell and Emory lead the team in rebounding.  Jr., Carlos Emory had 13 rebounds, and Sr., Michael Grinnell had 10.  The scoring was spread out with Grinnell 14, Johnson 14, Sanders 12, Emory 11.  With the win the team improved to 3-0 on the season.  The team plays Apple Valley at home on Tuesday night.

The 9A Boys Basketball team continued their winning ways on Friday with a 81-39 victory over Eagan.  The Lightning controlled the boards by grabbing 45 rebounds and Eagan only 17.  Paul McWilliams lead the team with 11 rebounds.  With great team defense Eastview caused Eagan to turn the ball over 28 times, creating many lay-up baskets.  The Lightning had five players in double figure scoring, Frank Veldman 28, Andre Hunt 12, Shane McSparron 12, Ryan Osgar 11, and Paul McWilliams 10.  Eastview will try to improve on their 5-1 record Tuesday at Bloomington Jefferson.

9B Boys Basketball lost a tough one at home Friday against Eagan 56 - 41.  The lightning were plagued by turnovers and being out rebounded by an athletic Eagan team.  Offense was tough for Eastview as only Khalil Jordan was in double figures.  Up next is Bloomington Jefferson on Tuesday.

In a classic Varsity Girls Basketball high school game it took an overtime to decide the winner between two quality teams.  Eastview had a 2 point half time lead over Park and extended it to 13 early in the second half.  Park did not quit and hit a 3 to send the game to overtime.  The Lightning won the overtime by 5, coming away with a 5 point win in against a tough non conference opponent.  Brittnye McSparron once again led all scorers on the floor with 25 points.  Sam Mehr added 12 points and  Danae Moore 8 rebounds against a tall aggressive Park club.  Brittany Rud battled the flu to contribute to the win, with Cassie Sheppard playing another solid game.  Key contributors from the bench included Hailey Thomforde, Brittany Rayman, and Emily Kaus.  The Lightning return to Lake Conference action on Tuesday as they journey to neighboring  rival Apple Valley.    Thanks to our many fans who journeyed with us to Park, join us again as we play at Apple Valley. We appreciate your support!  Go Lightning!
