SPORT SCORES

The Lightning Varsity Baseball team opened up their season with an impressive 5-0 victory over Rosemount under chilly conditions.  Nick Dolsky and George Jensen combined for a two hit shutout.  The offense was led by Erik Klefsaas with 3 hits and Cory Eul with 2 doubles.  The Lightning will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Bloomington Kennedy at 4:15.

Robbie Sikich called a great game, leading his team to a victory over the Rosemount JV Baseball team Monday afternoon. On a very cold day, Pitcher Blake Hagen gave up only 2 earned runs in 4 1/3 innings, striking out 3 and walking only 2. He kept us close as we traded leads with the Irish. Ryan Zwolensky came in to pitch 2 2/3 scoreless and hitless innings for the victory. He faced only 9 batters, walking 1 and striking out 3 to close the door on Rosemount. Cory Meyer and Taylor Augustin each had 2 hits and each scored and drove in a run. Pete Zukanoff’s hit a double and scored a run. In the 5th, Jack McDevitt launched a triple to deep center field driving in 2 runs to tie the game. McDevitt scored the go ahead run when Mark Gauger’s single drove him in after McDevitt some how managed to get back to third on a failed squeeze during the previous at-bat. Jack also launched a smash hit to the warning track in deep right field the next inning and it was miraculously caught by a very fortunate Irish outfield using an over-the-head basket catch made famous by non other than Willie Mays. This lucky young man made the catch and bounced off one of the Lake Conference team signs and still came away with the ball. Great team effort gentlemen!!!

The Sophomore Baseball team opened their season with a 12-2 win over Rosemount.  Garrett Olson, Ben Paulus, and Joey Voss led the way on the mound.  Mike Decovich and Austin Lindemann sparked the offense.  Mike Radermacher and Nolan Titchner keyed a good team defensive effort.
