Our All School Awards Assembly has been moved from May 28 to June 4 beginning at 8:51 am in the Main Gym.  Please note this change on your calendars.

EVHS Introduces B.O.L.T.S. 2008Building Our Learning Throughout Summer!

We are building on our traditional summer programs by offering a series of elective-credit academic camps focusing on enrichment and skill development.  Check out our BOLTS 2008 Registration Guide, with course descriptions (13 courses available, from each of the four core content areas as well as several elective areas), session scheduling (four different sessions running from June 23 – July 24), and registration information (register online!).  These camps and courses are tuition-based, with financial aid available.  Contact Jodi Hanson – EVHS Student Services (952.431.8920 or jodi.hanson@district196.org) with questions or for more information.

 

Parents - Please mark your calendars now for PAK's annual Staff Appreciation Day on Wednesday, May 14.  Volunteers will provide trays with parent donated breakfast foods as a way of expressing our thanks to all the EV staff.  Watch for information on how you can volunteer, donate goodies or make a monetary contribution for this special day.

Junior Parents: Mark your calendars… The 2008 senior parents invite you to join us on May 5 at 7:00 pm at Eastview High School, Room C250 so that your class can start your preparations for the 2009 Senior Class Party.  During this meeting, we will provide an overview of the party and the various committees that you will want to consider when planning the 2009 party.  Volunteer postions that need to be filled ASAP for this year’s party from Junior Parents2008 Senior Party Clean Up Chairperson and Security – Tradition states that Junior parents are in charge of cleaning up this year’s senior party and in charge of security on Friday June 13,  3:00 pm – 10:00 pm. Junior parents are also needed to help pick up donated food items -  Friday, June 13, afternoon and evening. COLLEGE AND SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION                                               

Juniors!!  If you are interested in the healthcare field, you have an opportunity spend 2 full days in a hospital setting accompanying a physician on their hospital rounds, watch actual procedures as they are being performed and questioning medical students and residents.  The course is July 31 thru August 1 and the cost is $150.  Students are accepted on a first-come first-served basis.  Pick up a packet and registration from in the Guidance Office.

 

Deadline registration for the June 14 ACT test is Friday, May 9.  Registration for the June 7 SAT test is May 6.  Students may register on line for the ACT test at www.actstudent.org and www.collegeboard.com for the SAT test.  Registration packets are also available in the Guidance Office.

 

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                

Hey Eastview students.  The lunch ladies have created a new food station rich with delicious choices.The foods at this station are called Lightning Subs and Thunder Wraps. You start by choosing to fill either a fresh 7.5” hoagie bun or a wheat, tomato basil, or garden vegetable tortilla. Next, you choose from a variety of hot and cold meats, cheeses, and fresh veggies. You can top it all off with one or up to three condiments of your choice. This station will be located to your left as you enter the cafeteria from the west. Please check out these fast, new, and delicious choices starting in May.

Sign up for IM Golf tee times outside Mr. Frost’s Room (A 207). We will be golfing on Monday, May 5 and Wednesday, May 7 next week. Sign up with your foursome soon to ensure you receive the tee times you want.

 

All Girls Track JV, distance athletes and pole voulters should report to the Scott Highlands pool at 3:00. Please do not enter the building before school is out.

 

The Varsity Boys Lacrosse team has recently announced Senior Dan Edem as a captain for the 2008 season. He joins fellow Captains, Senior Tim Rondorf, Junior Matt Garin, and Junior Andy Freeman.

 

The Girl’s Track and Field team will be selling Gerten’s Plant Cards. Each card sells for $25 and can be used to purchase plants at Gerten’s. They do not expire. The JV and Varsity Softball teams traveled to Eagan High School yesterday to watch the Dakota Hawks team dispatch the visiting New Prague team in less than 45 minutes.  A terrific effort by the Hawks.  The softballers then challenged the Hawks to a game, and they played to a 2-2 tie that had to be called on account of pizza showing up and dinner being served.  A nice effort by both teams!

 

SPORT SCORES                                                                                              

The Lightning Varsity Baseball jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but could not hold on as they suffered their first loss of the season to Apple Valley 12-5.  The Lightning are back in action today at home against Rosemount.

 

The 9A Baseball team defeated Apple Valley 9-2 yesterday behind the strong pitching of Ty MvDevitt and an offense led by Alec DesLauriers-Knop and Taylor Branstad.

 

On Monday the Boys Varsity Golf team traveled to Hazeltine National Golf Club for the third Lake Conference tournament and came away with a 3rd place finish shooting a 326 in raw conditions. Junior Kyle Nesheim finished in 3rd place overall with a solid 76. The Lightning bounced back on Tuesday at Ridges at Sand Creek with a season best 300 finishing in 2nd place, 3 shots behind the number one team in the state, Detroit Lakes. We had two individual medalists, Junior Joe Petrulo at #2 with a 73 and Junior Blake Brunn at #5 with a 75. Other contributing scores included Johnny Greene, 75; Drew Bjordal, 77 and playing in his first varsity match, Freshman Max Tylke, 77.

 

The Freshman Softball team overpowered the Sibley squad on Tuesday by a score of 21-2.Paige Palkovich had 11 strikeouts and Abbie Stern led the hitting with a home run. The squad travels to Lakeville North today.

 

The Boys Track and Field team competed tough with a mixture of tired and young athletes and placed 8th at the Lake conference Relays last night.  First place relays were (smith, McCormick, Hanson) 110 hurdle relay, Matt karnick posted the best Vault of the day at 13'7''.  The High Jump relay of (Peterson, Trombly, Placeway) placed third.

 

Congratulations to the Girl's Track team on their fantastic effort and strong win at the Lake Conference Relays yesterday. Eastview placed 1st at the eleven team meet with a 30 point decisive win. ARTS AND ACTIVITIES                                                                                          

EVHS Book Club will be meeting on May 15 at Barnes and Noble in Apple Valley at 7:00 pm. We are reading Jodi Picoult’s Plain Truth. New members are always welcome. Hope to see you on May 15!

 

Bravo! Tickets are still available for tomorrow and Friday.  The performance for Saturday, May 3 is sold out.  The Box Office is open from 6:30-7:30 on show nights and all performances begin at 7:30 pm

 

The Family and Consumer Science Department would like to congratulate the following FCCLA members on their amazing performance at this year's state conference. Earning Gold medals were Kari Jansen, Shannon Seglum, Jessica Karam, Mitch Peterson, Liz May, Divya Reddy, Ribka Ayele, Corrine Terlizzi, Amamda Tussing, Amanda Rathbone, and Sarah Covington. Sarah Covington was also a finalist competing for the top honor of advancing to national competition. Jordan Elton and Kim Gullickson earned silver medals. Co-advisor Mia Hendrickson was honored as Teacher of the Year for FCCLA Region 4. We are proud of the hard work and success of these students as they make a difference in the lives of families and our community. Congratulations!

 

All Robotics team members should meet tomorrow in the C1 Cluster at 2:30 for assignments and carpool information regarding the international robotics competition this weekend at the University of Minnesota!!
