EVHS Introduces B.O.L.T.S. 2008Building Our Learning Throughout Summer!

We are building on our traditional summer programs by offering a series of elective-credit academic camps focusing on enrichment and skill development.  Check out our BOLTS 2008 Registration Guide, with course descriptions (13 courses available, from each of the four core content areas as well as several elective areas), session scheduling (four different sessions running from June 23 – July 24), and registration information (register online!).  These camps and courses are tuition-based, with financial aid available.  Contact Jodi Hanson – EVHS Student Services (952.431.8920 or jodi.hanson@district196.org) with questions or for more information.

 

Parents - Please mark your calendars now for PAK's annual Staff Appreciation Day on Wednesday, May 14.  Volunteers will provide trays with parent donated breakfast foods as a way of expressing our thanks to all the EV staff.  Watch for information on how you can volunteer, donate goodies or make a monetary contribution for this special day.

The Relay for Life of Apple Valley is only 2 months away.  Mark your calendar for Friday, June 27 and join your community in walking to find a cure for cancer.  The night is a great way to support your family and friends who are battling cancer, to celebrate those who have fought and won their battle, and to remember those so close to you who have been lost to cancer.  Consider forming your own neighborhood or family team, joining a team that already exists or simply donating to an existing team. Students from EVHS, AVHS and SES have all come together to organize this year’s Relay in hopes that they can raise $45,000 which can be used to help with cancer education and to find a cure.  Check out the website at www.events.cancer.org/rflapplevalleymn .  

 

Junior Parents: Mark your calendars… The 2008 senior parents invite you to join us on May 5 at 7:00 pm at Eastview High School, Room C250 so that your class can start your preparations for the 2009 Senior Class Party.  During this meeting, we will provide an overview of the party and the various committees that you will want to consider when planning the 2009 party.  Volunteer postions that need to be filled ASAP for this year’s party from Junior Parents2008 Senior Party Clean Up Chairperson and Security – Tradition states that Junior parents are in charge of cleaning up this year’s senior party and in charge of security on Friday June 13,  3:00 pm – 10:00 pm. Junior parents are also needed to help pick up donated food items -  Friday, June 13, afternoon and evening. The District 196 Community Education Aquatics Program offers American Red Cross Lifeguarding training for ages 15 and up. The course will be offered over two weekends: Saturdays, April 26 and May 3 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sundays, April 27 and May 4 from noon to 6 p.m. The same course will be offered again over two weekends: on Saturdays, May 10and 17 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sundays, May 11 and 18 from noon to 6 p.m.

Would you like to enrich your children’s lives?  Help them make an international friend?  Give them a summer to remember?  Host a French student this summer!  There are many students who still need host families.  You provide room and board, include them in your regular summer activities and get an incredible experience for your family.  Students are coming in three groups: June 16-July 17, July 8-28 and July 9-28.  An informational meeting will be held Sunday, April 27 in Bloomington.  If you are interested in hearing more, please contact Mary Kuettner at mary.kuettner@district196.org .

SPRING IS HERE!!!!  Now that we can begin planning and planting our gardens, please take advantage of this simple way to support our EVHS Speech Team.  When shopping at Pahl’s Market between May 12 and June 1 simply mention EVHS Speech Team while checking out and 10% of your purchase will be donated by Pahl’s to the team.  As you know, the Speech Team has had a very successful year and will be competing at the national

competition soon.  Your support is so much appreciated and we hope you will remember the Speech Team when stopping in at Pahl’s this spring.  The dates for this fundraiser are May 12 thru June 1.  

 

Intramural Golf tee times are available outside Mr. Frost’s room. Sign up with your foursome to ensure you receive the time you want.

The Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse team takes on Eagan tonight at 6:30 at Eagan High School.  Please come out and cheer them on.  JV plays at 4:30 at Eagan and the 9/10 grade team plays at 4:00 at Eastview.

 

 

SPORT SCORES                                                                                              

The Girls Varsity Golf team opened their season last Thursday with a Lake Conference match against the very tough teams of Burnsville and Rosemount.  In cloudy, windy and cold conditions at Heritage Links in Lakeville, the golfers took third place.  Scoring for the Lightning were Kelly Uhrich, Anna Drahos, Bre Mathiesen, and Bekka Zuehlke.  Yesterday, the team participated in the 18-hole Farmington Invitational held at Fountain Valley in Farmington.  In windy but warm and sunny conditions, the varsity girls took 6th place out of 14 teams.  The team was led by Kelly Uhrich who took 16th place and Anna Drahos who took 21st.  Also scoring for the Lightning were Kristi Opatz and Bre Mathiesen. Lake Conference play continues today at Valleywood golf course.

 

The JV Girls Golf team also opened their season last Thursday with a match at Parkview in Eagan.  The cloudy, windy and cold conditions did not hold the girls back as they came in 2nd place against Lakeville North (1st) and Burnsville (3rd).  Dannie Erickson took 6th place overall.  Also scoring were Chelsea Ochtera, Sara Schaenzer, Jenny Chamberlain and Alley Poquette.  Their next match is this Friday at Mississippi National in Red Wing.

 

The Boys’ JV Tennis team played an excellent match against Chaska beating them 7-0!!!  We had tons of wins both at doubles and at singles.  Winning their matches for the Lightning were Keaton Hewitt #1 singles, Rachit Kshetrapal at #2 singles, Aaron Larson at #3 singles, and Ben Schmitz at #4 singles.  Playing doubles for the Lightning were Rob Watecha and Luke Sims at #1 doubles, Dan Volk and Zach Ghafari at #2 doubles, Derek Gee and Nate Kline at #3 doubles.  Other winners were: Tony Stagner and Drew Engen,  Phil Sims and Clint Spohn, Collin Erickson and Lucas Allen, Matt Haugdahl and Mark Zingler, Dan Falkenberg and Ben Reller

Way to go guys!  Good luck at the next match against Burnsville!

 

The 9A Baseball team defeated Lakeville South 12-3.  The Lightning were led by Alec DesLauriers-Knop who struck out 14 batters in 5 innings.  Jacob Ulrich led the offense, going 3-3 with a homerun.

 

The Varsity Softball team traveled to Chaska yesterday and suffered a tough loss, dropping their conference record to 2-4.  Sophomore Allie Merkley provided the only offensive highlights for the Lightning with her two hits.  Eastview will try to get back on the winning track today as they travel to Lakeville South.

 

The Sophomore Baseball team came from behind to defeat Lakeville South 4-3 on Wednesday behind a complete game from Joey Voss.  Austin Lindemann led the way offensively with a timely sacrifice that resulted in two runs and a hustle single that led to the winning run.  Nolan Titchner’s single drove in Andrew Melroe with the game winner in the bottom of the 7th inning.

 

Varsity Baseball - The Lightning used a 10 run 1st inning to propel themselves to a 14-4 victory over Lakeville South and remain perfect on the season at 8-0.  The hit barrage was led by Erik Klefsaas, Zach Ryberg, Erik Fabry, and Pat O’Neill all of whom had two hits and at least 1 RBI.  The Lightning are scheduled to be back in action today at Apple Valley this afternoon.

 

The Varsity Tennis team had a nice 5-2 victory over Chaska. Winning were Josh Alland at 3rd Singles, Will Biernat at 4th Singles.  The first Doubles team of Evan Batten, and Jon Alland 2nd, Doubles Team of Colin Desmond and Brad Steckman, and the 3rd Doubles team of Grant Kastner and Rohit Yallamraju

 

Blake Hagen allowed only 1 hit and struck out 5 batters in a dominating performance that propelled the JV Baseball team over a hapless Lakeville South team 13-1 in 5 innings on Wednesday.  The offense pounded out 16 hits from many active bats. Cory Meyer had 3 hits, a RBI, and scored 4 runs. Joel Bertelsen’s 3 hits resulted in 4 RBI. Robbie Sikich drove in 2 runs with 2 hits. Taylor Augustin scored 4 runs on 2 hits. Jack McDevitt launched a triple that hit the fence in deep right field and drove in two runs. Cody Groskreutz knocked in 3 runs on 2 hits. Sam Foy added a hit and RBI. Peter Zukanoff returned from an injury and started right where he left off, getting a hit and playing well in the field.

 

 

ARTS AND ACTIVITIES

AUDITIONS:   Auditions for the EVHS Fall Play for 2008 “The Kentucky Cycle” by Robert Schenkkan will be held April 28th from 3:00-6:00 pm. Students must sign up for a 10 minute audition time and pick up audition materials in the Main Office.  Callbacks will be held Wednesday, April 30 from 3:00-8:00 pm. First read through is on Tuesday, May 20.  Rehearsal begins late August/ early September. The 7th annual Film, Video, and Animation Festival will be held on Sunday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the PAC.  Any students interested in submitting a video should turn it in to Mr. Krebs or Mr. Fornicoia by Monday, April 28.

 

FCA - There's only one month of activities left for this year's FCA.   Stop by the guidance office to pick up a calendar of events.  If you are interested in being a leader next year, applications will be available starting Thursday.  Newcomers are always welcome, join us Monday nights at 7:00.  See Mrs. Cross in the guidance office for directions.
