The Relay for Life
of Apple Valley is only 2 months away. Mark your calendar for Friday,
June 27 and join your community in walking to find a cure for cancer. The
night is a great way to support your family and friends who are battling
cancer, to celebrate those who have fought and won their battle, and to
remember those so close to you who have been lost to cancer. Consider
forming your own neighborhood or family team, joining a team that already
exists or simply donating to an existing team. Students from EVHS, AVHS and SES
have all come together to organize this year’s Relay in hopes that they can
raise $45,000 which can be used to help with cancer education and to find a
cure. Check out the website at www.events.cancer.org/rflapplevalleymn

SPORT SCORES
The Lightning Boys Varsity Baseballfinished a strong week by defeating Eagan
10-5. Pitchers Erik Fabry and Michael Barry combined to hold down the
Wildcat bats. The offense was led by Erik Klefsaas’s three hits, Ben
Wagner’s two RBI’s, and Cory Eul’s homerun. The Lightning will be back in
action again on Monday against Bloomington Jefferson at Dred Scott Fields.
The JV
Baseball team lost 2-0 to Eden Prairie on Monday in a very well-played
game. Mark Gauger pitched wonderfully, allowing only two hits. Jack McDevitt
had the only hit for Lightning. Great fielding, most notably Tom Bauer, kept
the score close.
The JV
Baseball team out-pounded Burnsville 14-9 on Tuesday. Peter Zukanoff and
Jack McDevitt each played very well in the field and had two hits each. Sam Foy
and Joel Bertelsen each went 4-5 and combined for 5 RBI’s. Joel launched a
2-run homerun over the 20 foot high net in Left Field in the top of the 7th
to put an exclamation point on and secure the victory. Ryan Zwolensky had a
difficult 1st inning but pitched extremely well for the next 5 2/3
innings, cooling down the Blaze’ bats for the victory. Taylor Augustin, came in
to shut down a rally and earn the save. The JV extended their record to 5-1 by
defeating the Eagan Wildcats 12-1 on Thursday. Scott Wobschall had his second
consecutive “shut ‘em down” performance. He scattered 7 hits and gave up only 1
run in 6 strong innings of pitching. Sam Foy came in to close for his first
appearance and did very well. Cory Meyer was 3-3 and scored 3 runs. Jack
McDevitt was 4-5 and nearly hit for the cycle while driving in 5 runs. Matt
Lilledahl was 3-4 and Taylor Augustin was 2-3, and each scored 2 runs. Joel Bertelsen
Launched a 390 foot double to deep center field driving in 2 runs for a 3-game
total of 9-13 batting and 9 RBI.
The JV
Baseball team moved its record to 4-1 Wednesday with a 11-9 victory over an
powerful Chaska team. Blake Hagen survived the first two innings of a Chaska
run burst, down 6-2. He settled down and pitched very well for 6 1/3 innings as
his team started pounding the ball and generating runs. Taylor Augustin cleaned
up for the third time this week, shutting down the Hawks and earning the
save. A team effort of many great at-bats resulted in the comeback. Jack
McDevitt was 2-4 and made an outstanding play in the field, colliding hard with
the fence but hanging onto the foul pop-up. Joel Bertelsen was 4-5 for the
second day in a row and drove in 4 runs. Mark Gauger was also 4-5 and he and
Joel drove in the final runs for the victory.
The Sophomore
Baseball team bounced back Thursday with 10-4 win over Eagan behind the
pitching of Lucas Haug and Garrett Olson. A nine run first inning held up for
the win. The offense was led by Matt Barker, Nolan Titchner, and Zak
Stehlin. Mike Radermacher and Matt Decovich had strong defensive games.
The 9A
Baseball defeated Eagan 12-11 on Thursday to run their record to 3-1.
Matt Larson pitched well and Alec DesLauriers-Knop led the offense with 5
hits.
The Boys
Varsity Lacrosse team beat Bloomington Jefferson last night by a score of 8
- 4. The team next plays Blake, at the Hopkins Campus, on Saturday at 2:30 pm.
The Boys
Junior Varsity Lacrosse team tied Bloomington Jefferson last night with a
score of 4 – 4. The team next plays Blake, at the Hopkins Campus, on Saturday
at 1:00 pm.
The Boys
9/10 Lacrosse team lost to Bloomington Jefferson yesterday afternoon by a score
of 1-2. The team next plays Eden Prairie
at home, Tuesday April 22, at 5:00 pm.
The Girls
Varsity Lacrosse team found out last night what it means to be the two time
defending State Champions. Even thought the girls put their best foot (and hands)
forward they fell to the Eden Prairie Eagles 17-2. But for the best efforts of
Ashley "Get Outta MY Way" Maskel and Kaitlyn "K-L"
Leininger who each tallied goals, the big zero would have been on the scorecard
for the LAX girls. Not to be disheartened the girls fought to the end and can
be proud that they held the Eagles to six goals in the second half. Surely Eden
Prairie will be found not only in the top position for girls High School teams
in Minnesota but one of the top teams in the country before this year is over.
Hopefully Saturday the girls will find redemption by triumphing over the
Raiders of Credit-Derham Hall. Game time is 4:45.
The JV
Girls Lacrosse team also was defeated by the Eagles. Even after Kelsey”
K-Tay” Taylor’s first goal of the season, the JV squad was unable to overcome
the superior offense of the hometown gang. After this defeat the Raiders of
Cretin-Derham Hall had better be on high alert Saturday at 3 pm to keep from
being beat by our hometown girls.
The Varsity
Softball team fell to
The Lightening
JV team suffered their first lost on Thursday afternoon to
