FULL TEAM
Eastview is 1 of 13 schools nationwide to earn a National School of Excellence in Speech award for its full-team performance. It's been 3 or 4 years since we last won this very nice title.
INDIVIDUALS
Peter Ingles and Karina Devine placed in the top 60 in Dramatic Duo.
Vincent Cheng placed in the top 60 in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking.
Barbara Marchevsky place in the top 30 in International Extemporaneous Speaking.
Greg Berman placed 12th in the category of Humorous Interpretation.
Now for the biggies...Eastview had THREE national finalists.
Each one beat out hundreds of others in their categories to get to the last round of competition.
Here they are...
Freshman Karina Devine placed 5th overall in Storytelling. She told Hans Christian Anderson's "The Steadfast Tin Soldier."
Junior Taylor Misiak placed 5th overall in Dramatic Interpretation. She performed "Tea at Five," a monologue about the brazen life of Katherine Hepburn.
Junior Lindsey White is Eastview'snew National Champion in Humorous Interpretation. She is Eastview's first ever champion in that category, and 6th overall NFL national champion in our 11-year team history, joining Akshar Rambachan (2008), Ishaana Rambachan (2004), James Hohmann (who won twice - 2004 and 2005), and Cory Stewart (2005). And just to give you a little reality check on how tough it can be out there for the ladies to be the funniest kid on the block, Lindsey is only the third girl in more than 30 years to win this event. She performed "Sealed For Freshness," which is about a tupperware party in the 1960s.
Incidentally, Eagan and Apple Valley also did very well.
Eagan also won a team award for speech excellence, plus one for debate. Great showing for them.
And Apple Valley also claimed a national champion, senior John Hofmeister in the category of Original Oratory, which is a fancy name for persuasive speaking.
Once again, District 196 is well represented.
