Eastview National Honor Society was awarded its second consecutive Star Chapter Award at the Minnesota Association of Honor Societies annual convention held this past Saturday.  Eastview was one of only four chapters state-wide to earn this prestigious award which is based on a chapter’s programs and participation in engaging student scholarship, leadership, character, and service.

Congratulations to Eastview senior Josh Tollefson as he was named to the Minnesota Association of Honor Societies All-Star Team for his significant work this year with Minnesota Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  Josh’s significant leadership as chairperson of our annual Dodgeball tournament helped our chapter raise over $3500 for Minnesota JDRF.  Minnesota JDRF was this year’s state service project and Eastview’s contribution to this effort was the largest chapter donation state-wide.  Josh becomes Eastview NHS’s second recipient of this award; Ally Huang was recognized last year.  Tollefson, who was diagnosed a year ago with juvenile diabetes, will graduate with honors from Eastview this June and will be attending Cal-Tech University this fall.

Congratulations also to Eastview senior Vivian Hou as she received the State NHS Scholarship Award.  This award is presented by the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals and the Minnesota Association of Honor Societies.  The award considers student achievement in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service as demonstrated in their chapter and community.  Vivian becomes Eastview National Honor Society’s third recipient of this award; previous award winners are: Alex Gioe (EVHS, 2004) Stanford University, and Akshar Rambachan (EVHS, 2008) St. Olaf College.  Vivian will graduate with honors from Eastview this June and will be attending either UPenn or Williams College this fall.

Eastview NHS was also recognized for its outstanding documentation and communication of chapter events through emerging technologies via our chapter website and blog.  The chapter historians are seniors Emily Bryant and Annie Peckskamp.

The state NHS convention concluded Eastview senior and NHS President, Elle Schultz’s tenure as the Minnesota Association of Honor Societies (MAHS) President.  However, Eastview NHS junior and chapter President-elect, Sarah Malaske was elected as the MAHS President for the 2009-2010 school-year.  Sarah was elected to this position from a total of six candidates and was installed as the President at the convention.  Sarah is the second Eastview student to serve as MAHS President with Elle being the first.  Elle will graduate with honors from Eastview this June and will be attending the College of St. Catherine this fall.
