Girls’ Soccer - The girls’ soccer team lost a heartbreaker 1-0 in overtime to Eagan in the Section Championship at Farmington High School. The team played outstanding, especially considering the brutal cold and windy conditions. Congrats to Coach David Herem, Coach Mary Dye and the entire team on yet another fantastic season. A special thank you to Rich Berggren and the pep band and Coach Katie Oakes and the cheerleaders for braving the elements and supporting the team all the way to the finish!
Boys’ Soccer - The team lost in the section quarterfinals.
Cross Country - The girls’ and boys’ cross country teams placed 4th and 5th respectively in the blustery cold and windy conditions at the Section Championship at Valleywood Golf Course in Apple Valley. This brings the team season to a close for both the boys and girls teams that had outstanding years. Junior Anne Ferguson competed in her fourth straight state tournament as an individual competitor and placed 45th on Saturday morning at St. Olaf College. Congrats Fergie and Coach Jorjean Fischer on yet another state appearance!
Football - The football team followed up a huge win last week with another incredible performance against perennial football power Cretin-Derham Hall on Saturday night, unfortunately coming up short this time by a score of 27-24. Coach Sherwin and the team treated everyone in attendance to another outstanding high school football game. A huge thanks to Frank Pasquerella and the pep band, Jenny Raiche and the Dance Team and Tim Navarro and the cheerleaders for providing an outstanding atmosphere as well as putting on first class performances of their own throughout the evening! The Lightning football season comes to an end with a record of 7-4 highlighted by a perfect 6-0 record at home and three of their four losses coming to state tournament teams. Great season guys!
Volleyball -The volleyball team concluded their season with a heartbreaking 5 set loss to Burnsville on Saturday night at South St. Paul in the Section Championship. A gym full of fans were treated to some of the finest volleyball played anywhere in the state including at this week's state tournament. Coach Egan and the entire team have a lot to be proud of again this year. A special thanks to Frank Pasquerella and the pep band along with the great fans that supported the team on Saturday night and throughout the season.
Girls’ Swimming and Diving - in the Region 3AA swimming championships the Eastview girls’ swim and dive team advanced all three relays and two individual events to the State Tournament! Junior Kayla Hutsell qualified individually in the 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke and the following swimmers are either members or alternates in the three relays: Leah Anderson, Maddie Basil, Kelsey Deinhammer, Anna Drahos, Katherine Hamand, Kayla Hutsell, Mackenzie Lecy, Kristin Podratz, Sophie Running, Breanna Schlegel and Hayley Trace. These swimmers will compete at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center on Friday and Saturday, November 20th-21st at 6:00 p.m. each evening. Girls’ Tennis - The team lost in the section quarterfinals. The girls’ tennis doubles teams (Matit Fraune/Kayla Frazee and Mariah Lavold/Lauren Grotkin) were eliminated from the Section Tournament in the semifinals after putting up a good fight against two of the best teams in the section.
CI and PI Adapted Soccer - On last Wednesday night the CI Dakota United Hawks defeated Wayzata 6-0 to once again advance to the state tournament! The CI state tournament will be held at Stillwater High School on November 20-21. The CI Hawks with a record of 8-2-1 received the #4 seed in the South and will take on the #1 seed from the north, undefeated Anoka Hennepin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday night at Stillwater Area High School. The Semifinals are at 9 a.m. or 12 p.m. on Saturday and Final Round games are set for 1:45 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The PI team completed a PERFECT regular season with a 10-0-0 record and enters the state tournament as the #1 seed from the South. They will take on #4 seed from the North Park Center at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night also at Stillwater High School. The Semifinals are set for either 10:30 a.m. or 12 noon and the final rounds are at 12:15 p.m., 2:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. respectively on Saturday. Go Hawks!! |
