Apple Valley

The varsity softball team squared its record at 2-2 yesterday with a 1-0 win over Apple Valley.  Sophomore pitcher Laura Brenberg struck out 9 while allowing only two hits, and sophomore Allie Merkley drove in the game’s only run with a two-out double.  Eastview takes on conference leader Eagan today at home.

Eagan

The varsity softball team fell to Eagan yesterday 5 – 0.  Laura Brenberg allowed only four hits, and four of the five runs were unearned.  Lindsay Spanton provided the offensive highlights for the Lightning.  Eastview will try to return to .500 today at Chaska.

Farmington  The varsity softball team fell to a hard-hitting Farmington team yesterday.  Lindsay Spanton singled and scored, and Katie Donlan hit a long double to dead center to highlight the offense.
Chaska

The varsity softball team traveled to Chaska yesterday and suffered a tough loss, dropping their conference record to 2-4.  Sophomore Allie Merkley provided the only offensive highlights for the Lightning with her two hits.  Eastview will try to get back on the winning track today as they travel to Lakeville South.

Bloomington Jefferson

The varsity softball team fell to undefeated Jefferson yesterday 3-1.  Eastview had several scoring chances in the last few innings, but the “big clutch hit” was too elusive.  Solid defense kept the team in the game, and junior Steff Glynn’s towering double provided the offensive highlight of the game, but it wasn’t enough.  The Lightning hostLakeville North on Wednesday and Rosemount on Friday.

Burnsville

“The varsity softball team lost a tough one 5-1 to Burnsville Monday.  Ashley Hunt’s single in the second led to Eastview’s run, and the score stayed 2-1 for the majority of the game.  Burnsville scored three in the 5th thanks to a couple of bloop singles to seal their victory.  The Lightning take on Rosemount today at home – come celebrate teacher appreciation day with the team!”

Woodbury

The varsity softball team couldn’t get the engines started against Woodbury yesterday and fell 6-0.  The Lightning fell behind early 2-0, and managed to keep it close until the 6th inning, when Woodbury exploded for four runs.  Eastview, however, was unable to mount any sort of threat against the Royals’ pitching staff.

Great 8 Tournament

The Eastview Varsity softball team finished 2nd in the Lightning tournament held on a rainy Saturday this past weekend.  Eastview opened up with a 6-0 win over northern Minnesota powerhouse Hermantown, led by sophomore Allie Merkley’s 2 hits, including a homerun.  In game two, the Lightning trailed 7-2 entering the 7th inning, with very little in the way of offense outside of Ashley Hunt’s homerun.  Still trailing by 3 with two outs and the bases loaded, senior Abbey Burkel hit a grand slam home run to give Eastview a stunning 8-7 win over top-ranked North St. Paul.  Eastview fell in the championship game to Park Cottage Grove, despite a 4-hit performance by sophomore Lindsay Spanton.  Eastview travels to Eagan today, and finishes the Lake conference season at home against Kennedy on Wednesday

Eagan

The Varsity softball team traveled to Eagan to take on the Lake conference leaders yesterday.  A two-run homerun by sophomore Lindsay Spanton put Eastview up early, but Eagan roared back with 6 runs in the next inning, and went on to win 8-2.  Eastview celebrates senior day tomorrow at Lightning Stadium against Kennedy, and finishes the regular season Thursday against Park Cottage Grove.

Kennedy

The Lightning varsity softball team fell to Kennedy yesterday 7-2.  Kennedy scored the bulk of their runs in the 2nd inning thanks to some defensive miscues, and the offense never quite got on track to mount a comeback.  Sophomore Lindsay Spanton and her three hits provided some spark, and Abbey Burkel and Ashley Hunt each hit doubles to the wall, but it was too little too late.  Yesterday was also the final home game for five seniors: Abbey Burkel, Susie Kyllo, Danielle Fraser, Kari Johnston, and Kaity McIntosh.  The Lightning finish the regular season today at Park Cottage Grove.  Playoffs begin Monday at the Lexington/Diffley complex in Eagan.

Rosemount

(Regions)

The Lightning softball team opened up the region 3AAA playoffs Monday by avenging an earlier drubbing by the Rosemount Irish with a thrilling 4-2 win in nine innings.  Sophomore Laura Brenberg pitched all nine innings, striking out 12 while allowing only 4 hits.  Lindsay Spanton and Susie Kyllo collected three hits apiece to pace the offense.

Jefferson

(Regions)

The Lightning softball team continued its playoff run yesterday afternoon in Eagan.  In the first game of the afternoon, Eastview struggled to get the bats going against #3-ranked Jefferson, and fell into the losers’ bracket after an 8-0 loss.

Henry Sibley

(Regions)

The Lightning rebounded in the late game, defeating Henry Sibley behind a strong pitching performance by Laura Brenberg, who also had the game winning RBI.

Lakeville South

(Regions)

The Lightning softball season came to an end Friday.  Eastview opened up the afternoon with a 1-0 win over Lakeville South.  The game’s only run came on an RBI single by Freshman Angela Koppen, scoring Lindsay Spanton in the 2nd inning.  That was all the offense Lightning pitcher Laura Brenberg needed.

Burnsville

(Regions)

In the second game Friday, Eastview fell to Burnsville 6-1.  The loss to Burnsville was the final game for seniors Abbey Burkel, Kari Johnston, Susie Kyllo, & Danielle Fraser.  Best of luck to them next year and beyond!
