The JV Softball team pulled out a 5-4 victory against Eden Prairie in nine innings.  Taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning, the Lightening scored one in the bottom of the 8th to tie Eden Prairie and then scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth powered by a double hit to the left-field gap by Angela Koppen (one of Angela's 2 doubles in the game).  Sara Griffith picked up her second win of the season giving up no walks while striking out 8.

Kennedy

Powered by a Carlie Wagner triple and heads-up base running by Kayleigh Montgomery, Kelly Meyer and Christine Hanuman, the Lightning JV Softball came from behind to top Bloomington Kennedy by a score of 6-2.  Megan Glockner pitched her first game of the season striking out 9 while walking only two on the way to picking up her first victory.

Apple Valley

The Lightning JV softball team brought home victory #4 on Wednesday defeating Apple Valley 4 - 2.  Megan Glockner picked up the win and Sara Griffith recorded her first save coming in in the bottom of the 5th and striking out 4 batters in 2 2/3 innings.  Sophie Williams started out the game with a solid hit and six other Lightening players contributed hits during the game including a clutch pinch hit double by Steff Glynn in the fourth inning that scored the eventual game winning run.

Eagan
The Lightning JV team suffered their first lost on Thursday afternoon to Eagan by a score of 6 - 2.  The Lightning were only able to manage 4 hits, two of them by Kelly Meyer.  Sara Griffith pitched the entire game, giving up only two earned runs while striking out four.  The team heads to Chaska Friday.

Bloomington Jefferson

The Lightning JV is back on the winning track after a 9 - 3 victory over Bloomington Jefferson.  The Lightning put together 9 hits over 6 innings including an over the fence 2 run shot by Carlie Wagner in the 5th inning.  Kayleigh Montgomery provided tremendous defense at 1st base and catcher Sam Mahoney called a great game for pitcher Sarah Griffith who posted her third win of the season with six strikeouts and only 2 walks.

Lakeville North

The JV improved their record to 6 - 2 with a 2 - 1 ten inning win against Lakeville North.  Megan Glockner pitched 8 1/3 innings giving up only one hit while striking out four.  Angela Kopppen drove in one run in the first inning with a double that just missed clearing the center field fence.  Christine Hanuman started off the 10th inning with a single and then stole second base.  Sam Mahoney moved her to 3rd with a perfect sacrifice bunt and Sophie Williams hit a hard ground ball that allowed Hanuman to cross the plate with the winning run.

Lakeville South
The JV split a double-header against Lakeville South on Saturday taking the first game 2 - 1 in extra innings before dropping the second with a score of 7 - 6.  In the first game, with 2 outs in the 8th, three straight singles by Kayleigh Montgomery, Carlie Wagner and Sam Mahoney brought the game winning run across the plate.

In the second game, the Lightning scored 3 in the first and 3 in the third, but could not capitalize on a fourth inning scoring opportunity and went down in order in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.  Angela Koppen and Sophie Williams each had 2 hits and Sara Griffith struck out 7 in 4 2/3 innings.
Burnsville

The Lightning JV team suffered its 4th loss of the season on Monday falling to Burnsville 7 - 2.  Doubles by Errin McIsaac and Carlie Wagner and a single by Kayleigh Montgomery in the 5th inning scored the only two Lightning runs.  The JV looks to get back on the winning track Tuesday in their home game against Rosemount.

The JV team is back on the winning track after a 5 - 3 victory over Woodbury.  The Lightning scored one in the 1st inning and four in the 2nd with hits by Sophie Williams and singles from Kelly Meyer, Megan Glockner, Christine Hanuman, and Cassidy Peterson.  Glockner and Hanuman picked up hits in the 6th, but left the bases loaded without scoring.  Sara Griffith picked up the win and recorded 8 strikeouts and Errin McIsaac did a tremendous job keeping the book.  The Lightning are back in action on Friday at home against Rosemount.

Great 8 Tournament

The Lightning finished the weekend winning two and losing two. On Friday, they defeated Rosemount by a score of 7 - 1.  Macaela Karnick lead the way with a double, triple and an RBI.

At the Eastview Great 8 Tournament on Saturday, the Lightning dropped their first game to Park of Cottage Grove by a score of 7 - 3 but came back to defeat Lakeville South 3 -1.  The third game was played in a cold rain and both teams scored early and often.  Unfortunately, the Lightning ended up on the short end and lost 16 - 12.

The Lightning begins the last week of the season today with a game at Eagan where they hope to improve their current 10 - 6 record.

Eagan

The Lightning JV had trouble getting their offense started and fell to Eagan by a score of 7 - 1.  The Lightning had the bases loaded in the first inning with no outs, but couldn't score and only managed 5 hits off an effective Eagan pitcher.  Carlie Wagner doubled in the second and Sophie Williams scored the only run in the seventh inning.  The Lightning are back in action on Wednesday against Kennedy in the last home game of the season.
