We
consider it a privilege to be entrusted with your
precious children for the school year. Our primary
focus throughout the year will be that our students
know we love and care for them. We know that before
any learning can take place, a child needs to feel
good about himself/herself and feel comfortable and
safe in the classroom.
As teachers, we
believe that we have a much larger responsibility
to children than teaching to their intellect. Teaching
reading, writing, and mathemathics are only a few
of the pieces in the tapestry of our work. Our mission
is to teach the whole child: physical, social, emotional
and cognitive. We see our students as unique persons
with individual patterns and timing of growth. We
understand that other influences on a child are his
own personality, learning style and family background.
We really try to be responsive to individual differences
by our inteactions with the children and by designing
curriculum which is developmentally appropriate.
Several times a
year your child will be involved with themes that
add interest to studies. This interdisciplinary approach
integrates Literature, Poetry, Drama, Social Studies,
Science, Math, Creative Writing, Oral Language, Spelling,
Art and Music into a theme. Our all-encompassing
theme for the year is THE PLACES READING CAN TAKE
YOU!
