MSA Award 2024

Congrats to our Echo Park Magnet School community!

Echo Park has been named a 2024 School of Distinction by Magnet Schools of America! This is the SECOND year in row that our school has received this award and one of only seven schools statewide. To receive this award our school demonstrated magnet integration, raising academic achievement, having strong family and community partnerships, and so much more. Congrats to our school community!

Echo Park School of Leadership, Engineering and Technology will be recognized and receive the award at the 41st Annual Magnet Schools of America National Conference in New York City, New York, in April.

Three District 196 elementary magnet schools have been selected for recognition in Magnet Schools of America’s 2024 Merit Awards program. Diamond Path Elementary School of International Studies and Echo Park Elementary School of Leadership, Engineering and Technology are being recognized as Schools of Distinction, and Glacier Hills Elementary School of Arts and Science is one of a select group of schools in the nation to be named a Top School of Excellence.

The District 196 School Board on Jan. 8 approved a resolution to accept the resignation of Board Director Bianca Virnig and declare a board vacancy, and a separate action to approve the process the board will use to fill the vacancy. Virnig won a special election Dec. 5 to fill the open seat in House District 52B. She will resign from the School Board Jan. 11.

District 196 is accepting applications from families interested in having their students attend a magnet school in the 2024-25 school year. The deadlines to submit applications are Jan. 5 for the five elementary magnet schools, Dec. 15 for Valley Middle School of STEM and Dec. 22 for the School of Environmental Studies optional high school for juniors and seniors.
