Career Education

Career Education is a group of District 196 Course offerings designed to take students into the 21st Century work force. Business and community leaders across the nation indicate that students must have a sound academic background combined with the ability to apply those learnings to succeed in the work force. These leaders also state that approximately 20 percent of the employment opportunities that will be available will require a baccalaureate degree while over 65 percent will require two years of post-secondary education. The Career Development courses will assist students in selecting career areas that can lead to appropriate post-secondary training with no limitations on the level of advanced degree to which a student might aspire.

The courses listed in the registration guide are the result of the work of a Career Development Planning Team and a Transition Action Team of parents, teachers, business people, students and post-secondary staff dedicated to providing opportunities to reach our district mission of "Educating Our Students to Reach Their Full Potential." The courses incorporate strong academic preparation, particularly in communications, math, and science with technical applications and business partnerships within the community.

Project Goal Statement

Working with educational, business, and community partnerships, we will provide all students expanded opportunities in career development through integrated and innovative curriculum and instructional practice. As a result, students will have relevant and transferable skills that enable them to compete in a global economy.
