About Me

They say that "time flies when you are having fun" and I can't argue with that. There isn't anything I'd rather be doing than working with families as the Early Childhood Family Services Manager in District 196. I have held this position for the last 14 years and was also a parent educator in the program for 5 years.

I have been a licensed parent educator for over twenty years, but my interest in homemaking, child development, parenting and family education goes back longer than that.  I can't believe that my three children are in their thirties and I have two (very cute) grandsons. It seems like only yesterday that we were watching our oldest crawl, then walk, then run. Now I see him experiencing the same joyful moments with his own children. Seeing my son and his wife raise their children helps me experience what it means to be a parent today. Although my own parenting successes (and mistakes) helps me with my work, I am also able to see how young parents are challenged in new ways like societal influences, challenging economic times, and struggles around dual employment.

I consider myself a lifelong learner and love learning from others, especially children. There is nothing that brings me greater joy than watching children come into our centers and get excited about learning. My formal education includes receiving Bachelors and Masters degrees in Home Economics Education from the University of Minnesota and a Doctorate in Education Leadership from the University of St. Thomas.

Besides my children and grandchildren, I enjoy golf, gardening, collecting antiques, and restoring my 85 year-old farmhouse, which always seems to need something.

Philosophy
I wholeheartedly believe that everyone has strengths, they just need to learn what they are and nurture them into their best assets. As a parent educator I strive to help parents and children recognize their strengths because these strengths become the basis for future learning and a positive self-esteem.

As a program leader I am committed to developing programs and services to meet the needs of families with young children. I strive to use our limited resources efficiently and as effectively as possible. My door is always open and I invite you to give me a call at 952-431-8340 if you have ideas or suggestions for our programs.
