About Me

I am a Parent Educator and teach ECFE classes in the Green and Rainbow Rooms in Apple Valley. I have been teaching for District 196 for 20 some years. I also work with the Bridge to School program as a parent educator.

My educational background: From high school is southwestern Missouri I went farther west to college at  Brigham Young University in Utah, then to San Jose State in California, then, during the time my husband was in Vietnam I attended Southwestern Missouri State University. I finally graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Stout.  It took me 14 years from start to finish but I did it and managed to raise my family too! I returned to Stout to get a master’s degree in Marriage and Family therapy which I have found useful with my teaching.

The Navy moved my family to Minnesota in 1978 and it was a huge change for all of us from San Diego, California. I have now lived here longer than any other place so now this is home.  My family includes my husband, and seven children.  Our children are living all over the world;  our oldest daughter lives in Okinawa, Japan; our oldest son just retired from the Army and moved to Kansas, we have a daughter in Spokane, Washington; and three sons and a daughter here in Minnesota. I live in a generational family by choice with one of our daughters and her family and it is the best!

For enjoyment I love doing family history research.  I have traced my family back many generations and have helped others do the same.  I also enjoy sewing, cooking and interacting with my grandchildren.

Philosophy
A hundred years from now it will not matter what car you drove, what house you lived in but what will matter is how we as a community came together to rear our children. We were given skills from the past and either hang on to those skills or trade them for something different. I believe our legacy is to give our children and grandchildren the best parenting skills we can learn.
