Bridge to School
Bridge to School is a one-year preschool program for children ages 4 and 5 who will be attending kindergarten the following September. Some of the classes are combined with the district's Early Childhood Special Education program. All classes are taught by licensed early childhood teachers and are well staffed to meet the needs of all children.
Who can attend? Children must be 4 years old on or before September 1 of the year they are enrolled and live in ISD 196. Priority is given to children who are referred by screening, are learning English, need financial assistance or have other personal or family needs.
Country Garden Nursery School
Country Garden Nursery School began in 1980 under the ownership of Linda Green, a longtime elementary teacher in the Rosemount School District. She recognized the great importance of a good early childhood education as she worked with older children. She spent a great deal of time planning and established a good foundation for Country Garden Nursery School. Country Garden Nursery School has blossomed and grown from about 40 to 120 students and expanded from one to three classrooms. Currently there are six classes in two locations. Country Garden Nursery School is an integrated program with Early Childhood Special Education.
Early Childhood Special Education
School districts in Minnesota are mandated to serve children with disabilities from birth. We have a comprehensive program of Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) services for children from birth through kindergarten entrance, including the following:
- All 4-year-old children who live in Independent School District 196 need to participate in a early childhood screening process before entering kindergarten.
- Services for children ages birth through two focus on working with families in their homes.
- Three-year-old children with disabilities are served in a variety of settings for up to three half-days per week.
- Four and five-year-old children with disabilities are served in a variety of settings for up to five half-days per week.
Our ECSE programs are housed throughout the district with our main office at the Early Childhood Learning Center, a leased building at County Road 42 and Johnny Cake Ridge Road in Apple Valley.
