Welcome to VOCAL MUSIC at Diamond Path

Cindy Weber - Vocal Music Specialist
Music is a vital part of the curriculum at Diamond Path. Classroom music is offered on a four day cycle for 55 minutes to all students in Grades 1-5. During the year, each grade participates in an evening music concert.
The curriculum draws on a number of different methods:
- Kodal y- a vocal-based method that teaches the basics of music through singing
- Orf - an instrumental method that approaches the basics of music through the medium of improvisation and eventually note reading on instruments
- ETM - an experiential method employing games and movement
There is also a strong emphasis on singing: in-tune singing and building good solo vocal and choral singing techniques. The history of music will be explored throughout the year, and we will often journey to other cultures to gain a better appreciation of the rich expressive language of music. Cross disciplinary music activities will also be included in the curriculum when appropriate.
The goal of the program is to produce musically literate students who can function successfully in a variety of musical situations, whether it be in the creation, appreciation (listening) or performance of music.
