GIFTED and TALENTED PROGRAM (GT)
The Psychedelic Creatures" - "Kids in Action Challenge"
4th and 5th Graders Study the Brain
The Gifted and Talented Program extends educational challenges for intellectually and academically gifted students.
GT classes work to develop the skills of creative thinking, critical thinking, problem solving, and research. The majority of the time this is done within the context of a particular unit or area of study. Goals for the GT classes include: providing additional challenges for academically able students, providing a small group setting in which students can interact with others of similar abilities, and supporting students in expanding their special interests, knowledge, and skills.
To be included in GT classes, students must meet criteria established by ISD #196. All students in grades 1 - 5 are screened on a yearly basis for inclusion in the GT Program. Achievement scores, aptitude test scores, classroom performance, and teacher recommendations are all part of the identification criteria.
Enrichment classes are also offered at Diamond Path. They are designed to help classroom teachers challenge those students who have a particular academic strength or interest. These include such things as the Math Team, Science, Literature Groups, and Math Enrichment. Criteria for inclusion in Enrichment classes is determined by the Diamond Path GT and classroom teachers.
