GRADE TWO - Expectations
Homework
Look for the following assignments in your child's Friday Folder each week.
- Word Study: Word study tests will take place on most Thursdays. Students will receive their list on Friday of the previous week. On weeks with no test, students will have word study homework to be completed for the following week.
- Parent/Student Letters: Every week your student will write a letter to you about what is happening at school. Please read these letters (without correcting mistakes) and respond back to your child about family events or your own second grade experience. Please return this notebook with the Friday Folder.
- Math Homework: Stamped “homework”, these home activities focus on the topic of the week. This is a requirement for all students. Please be sure to return completed homework to your child's teacher.
Friday Folders
Please be sure to check your child's Friday Folder each week. It will contain important information regarding your child's progress as well as events which take place in your child's classroom and at Diamond Path. Each month a calendar of classroom events will come home. Important information such as birthdays, book orders, and sharing will be included. On the back of the classroom calendar, you will find our topics of study for the month.
Behavior
Second graders are well on their way to developing skills necessary for taking responsibility for themselves and their actions. Although they continue to need our guidance as parents and teachers, students are encouraged to problem solve to find and make acceptable decisions regarding their behavior. Students are expected to follow the guidelines of their classroom rules (Diamond Path Bill of Rights) as well as the ISD 196 District Handbook.
Each second grade class reviews the rights and responsibilities of the students and staff at Diamond Path at the beginning of the year. Through curriculum, literature, and daily discussion, these concepts are revisited throughout the year. Your child's teacher will contact you if there are concerns regarding your child's behavior.
