CID - DEVELOPMENTAL/ADAPTIVE
PHYSICAL EDUCATION (D/APE)
Adaptive physical education or D/APE is provided to CID students to increase both their loco motor movements & their object control ability. Students in the CID program receive physical education programming each day from an adapted physical education teacher. Services are individualized to each student's needs, and focus on the outcomes to be achieved by the students as a result of participating in the physical education program.
The process of individualizing the instructional process includes selecting the setting and environment, determining the pace of instruction, providing appropriate independent and guided practice, and modifying equipment. Many different activities are covered to improve the students’ gross motor ability as well as stretching and sensory regulation. The adaptive physical education teacher works in collaboration with the teachers and other specialists who work with the CID students.
