Better Energy Efficiency
BEE 196 is the Better Energy Efficiency program in District 196. The district has saved more than $2 million in its first four years of making a concerted effort to reduce energy usage. These efforts started in 2007 when the district contracted with Hallberg Engineering to implement their Schools for Energy Efficiency™ (SEE) program. SEE offers a unique approach to energy conservation, focusing on reducing waste through operational improvements and behavioral changes.
While the return on investment with the SEE program was substantial, funding for the contract renewal was eliminated as part of budget reductions. District administration recognizes the importance of maintaining an energy efficiency program to support the energy conservation efforts of staff and students. The BEE 196 program is a continuation of many of the low- and no-cost behavioral changes that accounted for a majority of the energy use reduction while the district was in the SEE program. BEE 196 continues to engage staff and students in the effort to reduce our energy use through energy education activities and awareness.
