Mrs. Ellickson's Class wins
Outstanding Project Award
Kelli Ellickson's third grade class brought their science project to the U of MN's Insect Fair. Out of the 90+ projects and 400 students presenting (elementary - high school students from all over the state), Kelli's crew was one of the Outstanding Project award winners.
The Monarchs in the Classroom Insect Fair is held annually at the University of Minnesota and is sponsored by Medtronic Foundation, the Improving Teacher Quality Grants Program of the Minnesota Higher Education Services Office, the Bell Museum of Natural History, Monarchs in the Classroom, and the University of Minnesota Extension Service.
There were three sets of awards given: the top being the Outstanding Project Award. The children had an excellent display. They explained their project well before the judges and fielded questions clearly and accurately.
Congratulations Mrs. Ellickson's class!
STEM
A Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) magnet is designed for students who enjoy challenges and investigating the world around them. A child’s innate ability to explore, experiment, problem solve, and invent is at the heart of Cedar Park’s STEM studies. Instead of teaching science, technology, engineering and math classes in isolation, Cedar Park STEM links the students’ learning opportunities by using an inter-disciplinary approach as much as possible. Our hands-on learning helps students make the connections between academic concepts and real life. The school’s instructional practices value diverse learning styles, provide rich experiences for all learners, and nurture self-esteem and life-long learning.
