Working together to build a better community

Welcome to Independent School District 196, the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan Public Schools. Each day, the 4,000 employees of District 196 strive to achieve our mission of educating, developing, and inspiring our students for lifelong success.

We are a public school district with high academic standards and expectations, and a record of outstanding student achievement both in and out of the classroom. Our students consistently earn large numbers of scholarships, as well as state and national awards in a variety of curricular and cocurricular areas including science, literature, mathematics, student publications, speech and debate, world languages, athletics, music and the arts.

Advisory Councils

District 196 advisory councils provide students, parents, staff and area community members the opportunity to be involved in the decision making process and help guide the work of the district. These members are critical to the success of our schools and help build on the district's goals and mission of educating our students to reach their full potential.

Everyone is welcome to apply for membership on any of our advisory councils. Learn more >

Community Education

District 196 is committed to the idea of lifelong learning. In addition to our comprehensive K-12 program, our district serves our community residents of all ages – from infants to senior citizens – through Community Education programs that range from early childhood to adult education to programs for senior adults.

District 196 offers many ways for the community to get involved! We have volunteer opportunities throughout our schools, a foundation that seeks to raise funds to support our programs, and businesses and organizations that partner with us to help us accomplish our goals.

District 196 Foundation

The District 196 Foundation raises funds from individuals and organizations to provide enhanced learning opportunities for our students. With growing support from businesses, parents, teachers and district citizens, the District 196 Foundation continues its mission of eliminating barriers to learning.

The three focus areas of the foundation are ensuring all children in the district have food to eat, books to read and instruments to play. Beyond these three core programs, the District 196 Foundation continually works with us to identify meaningful ways to support our students and fulfill critical needs across the district.
