After School Enrichment

A school nurse may not always be on-site during the Community Education enrichment classes that take place before or after the school day. Please let the school nurse know if there are medications that your child will need access to during their before or after school class. Emergency medications will be given directly to the Community Education program coordinator. Emergency medications will be administered by trained school personnel when the school nurse is unavailable.

If District 196 schools are closed for the day, all before and after school Community Education activities are canceled. Every effort will be made to reschedule canceled classes however, there are instances where classes cannot be rescheduled. Register early, before the registration deadline. Registrations after the deadline may not be placed in a class due to the class being full, or insufficient amount of time to purchase class supplies or an insufficient amount of time to communicate student information to the classroom teacher, class instructor, school office staff and Community Education coordinators. Your child’s safety is our top priority and late registrations can hinder our ability to communicate all the important information before the first day of class.

A late fee of $1 per minute will be charged for late pick-ups starting at 4:50 p.m. (Highland & Deerwood 3:15 p.m. and Southview 4:05 p.m.) based on the school clock. Two or more late pick-ups will result in possible dismissal from the program without a class refund. Please be considerate of the after school staff in following the program end time. We understand that emergencies arise. We also understand that traffic can be challenging or hectic, but we expect all children to be picked up on time. Traffic issues do not excuse the late fee that will be charged. When your child is picked up late, our staff is required to remain working, therefore, unable to attend personal commitments outside of school. 

Enrollment in before and after school classes or activities constitutes permission for District 196 to take and use photographs, video and other likenesses of you and your enrolled minor child in District 196’s promotional materials and publications. If you do not wish for the image and likeness of you or your minor child to be used in this manner, contact the communications department at communityed@district196.org or call 651-423-7701.

Scholarships are available to students who qualify. One scholarship per student, per session, is available to students on free and reduced lunch. Students on reduced or free lunch receive a 50% discount on one class fee per session. If a student would like to register for a second class, the class fee for the second class must be paid in full.

Scholarships can be processed through the online registration, by phone or on the registration form sent home from school. If you wish to request a scholarship for an after school class when registering online, please select the second or third class fee from the drop-down fee selection. You can also fill out the appropriate information on the registration form and turn in to your child’s classroom teacher or call the Community Education registrars at 651-423-7920. All requests made for scholarships are subject to verification.

Students are expected to follow the same behavior guidelines established for the regular school day. If students cannot comply with these behavior expectations before or after school, parents will be notified and a behavior incident report will be filled out by the after school coordinator or class instructor. If your child receives two or more incident reports during a session, they could be asked to be withdrawn from their class with no refund.
