Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
Become certified to teach American Red Cross Swim Lessons. Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) certification is included. Attendance at all class sessions is mandatory.
Fee: $225
- Age Prerequisite: Students must be 16 years old by the last day of the class
- Skill Prerequisite: Students must have swimming skills equivalent to the Red Cross Level 4 swim lesson requirements

Lifeguarding

Lifeguarding Course Prerequisites:
- Age Prerequisite: 15 years of age by the last day of the class.
- Skill Prerequisite #1: 300 yard continuous endurance swim using front crawl and breaststroke. A 550 yard continuous endurance swim using front crawl and breaststroke is required for Waterfront Lifeguarding.
- Skill Prerequisite #2: Complete a timed skill sequence including a 20 yard swim, retrieval of a 10 lb. object from 7 to 10 feet depth, swim 20 yards carrying the object and exit the water within 1 minute and 40 seconds.
- Skill Prerequisite #3 for Waterfront Lifeguarding only: Swim 10 yards under water retrieving 3 diving rings.
Lifeguarding For Pools and Waterpark Classes
If you want to work as a lifeguard at a pool or a waterpark, this course is for you! Become certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Waterpark Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR and AED for the Professional Rescuer. Attendance at all class sessions is mandatory.

Renew your Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer with a one-day challenge class.
Students must successfully complete all prerequisites, perform all required skills and pass the written test for certification renewal. Students must present verification of previous lifeguarding certification completed within the past four years. Boy Scout Lifeguards and Ellis Lifeguards are now eligible to participate in a Lifeguard Challenge also.
Renew your CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer with a one-day challenge class.
Fee: $50

Students that successfully complete the course will be provided the opportunity to become certified in Waterfront and Waterpark Lifeguarding also. Attendance at all class sessions is mandatory.
- Age Prerequisite: Students must be 17 years old by the last day of the class
- Skill Prerequisite: Students must pass the Lifeguarding swimming prerequisites and demonstrate competency in Lifeguarding skills.

GuardStart
Guard Start, today’s version of junior lifeguarding, is designed to guide youth into the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training program. This course builds a foundation of knowledge, attitudes and skills for future lifeguards.
