Volunteer Opportunities

Community Education invites you to make a difference by volunteering in a Community Education program. For more information, contact your program of interest or the phone numbers listed below.

ABE Tutor
Adult Basic Education (ABE) needs adults to assist other adults with their learning goals. ABE offers instruction in English-as-a-Second Language (ESL), high school completion and basic skills. Tutors work with adults, either one-on-one or in small groups. Both daytime and evening options are available. Call 651-683-8585 if you wish to volunteer in Eagan or 952-431-8316 if you wish to volunteer in Apple Valley.

Districtwide Advisory Council member
The Districtwide Advisory Council provides overall guidance to Community Education programs and services. The council is made up of volunteer representatives from throughout the district. New members are recruited in the spring and come on board in the fall. Call the Office of the Director at 651-423-7722 for more information.

Aquatics Advisory Council member
The Aquatics Advisory Council offers input on Community Education swim lessons and programs. Call the Aquatics Program Office at 651-683-6879 for more information.

ECFE volunteer
Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) offers classes and special activities for families with children age birth up to kindergarten. The program needs volunteers to assist in the classroom, help with special activities, and provide clerical assistance. ECFE also has an advisory council made up of volunteer members. Call 952-431-8340 for more information.

Marketing/Program Committee member
Community Education is market-driven. It relies heavily on public input and participation to ensure that programs and services meet community needs. Two of its standing committees are always open to new members who are willing to serve as the "eyes and ears" of the public. Call 651-423-7701 for information about the Marketing and Promotions Committee. Call 651-423-7920 for information about the Program and Evaluation Committee.

River Valley Project Explore volunteer
River Valley Project Explore is Community Education's program for adults with disabilities. The program needs youth and adults to serve as sign language interpreters or note-takers, advocates to attend Community Education classes with adults, and volunteers to assist with special events and activities. Volunteer Advocate Job Description

S.E.E.K. volunteer
The Special Education Enrichment for Kids program for students with special needs has several openings for volunteers to assist with classes. Call 651-423-7928 if you can help. This is a new program focusing on helping kids to learn new things, meet new friends and hve fun!

Senior adult volunteer
Senior adults may participate in several intergenerational activities that benefit area children and youth. From "cribbage challenges" to classroom speaking, seniors may share their lifetime of experiences. Call 651-423-7931 for more information.

Youth volunteer
Community Education recognizes youth as a valuable resource to the department and broader community. Youth may apply to serve on the Youth Connection Council (YCC), a youth-adult advisory group made up of volunteer representatives from across the district. Members meet once a month during the school year to address issues of interest to youth and to participate in volunteer opportunities. Call 651-423-7928 for more information.
