Advisory Councils

Community Education belongs to the community! It relies on the input of citizens to ensure that it meets the needs of its customers. Accountability is achieved in many ways, including the use of advisory councils and committees. Members serve as the "eyes and ears" of the public.

Aquatics – The Community Education Aquatics Advisory Council provides input to swim lessons and programs that serve children, youth, adults and families. The council meets quarterly; call 651-683-6879 for more information.
Application

Districtwide – Minnesota Statute 121.88 (1971) requires that each school district operating an approved Community Education program must have a representative citizen’s advisory council that broadly reflects the composition of the community it serves. The Districtwide Advisory Council advises and assists the department in fulfilling the Community Education mission. Members provide overall guidance to Community Education programs and services. For more information, call the Office of the Director at 651-423-7722.

The council meets monthly from August through June; call 952-431-8340 for more information.

Project Explore – The River Valley Project Explore Advisory Council provides guidance to Community Education programs and services for adults with disabilities. Membership is made up of representatives from throughout the consortium school districts, which include Burnsville (District 191), Farmington (District 192), Lakeville (District 194), Randolph (District 195), and Rosemount (District 196). The council meets quarterly; call 952-431-8735 (voice) or 952-431-8737 (TTY) for more information.

Youth – The Youth Connection Council (YCC) is a youth-adult advisory board that addresses issues and needs related to school-age youth in District 196. YCC meets monthly during the school year, except in December. Youth have a special opportunity on the council to voice their concerns; youth co-chairs provide leadership to the group. Youth membership is made up of representatives from the district’s secondary schools. Adult representation includes professionals who work with youth in the community, interested parents and school district personnel.

For more information about YCC and other Community Education services that benefit youth, call 651-423-7928.
