Councils
Community
Education belongs to the community! It relies on the input
of citizens to ensure that it meets the needs of its customers.
Accountability is achieved in many ways, including the use
of advisory councils and committees. Members serve as the
"eyes and ears" of the public.

Aquatics
The Community Education Aquatics Advisory Council provides
input to swim lessons and programs that serve children, youth,
adults and families. The council meets quarterly; call 651-683-6879
for more information.
Application
Districtwide
Minnesota Statute 121.88 (1971) requires that each
school district operating an approved Community Education
program must have a representative citizens advisory
council that broadly reflects the composition of the community
it serves. The Districtwide Advisory Council advises and assists
the department in fulfilling the Community Education mission.
Members provide overall guidance to Community Education programs
and services. For more information, call the Office of the

Minutes
Early Childhood Family
Services (ECFS) The ECFS Advisory Council
offers input into Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE)
programming and other services for families with children
age birth up to kindergarten. The council meets monthly from
August through June; call 952-431-8340 for more information.
Project Explore
The River Valley Project Explore Advisory Council provides
guidance to Community Education programs and services for
adults with disabilities. Membership is made up of representatives
from throughout the consortium school districts, which include
Burnsville (District 191), Farmington (District 192), Lakeville
(District 194), Randolph (District 195), and Rosemount (District
196). The council meets quarterly; call 952-431-8735 (voice)
or 952-431-8737 (TTY) for more information.
Youth
The Youth Connection Council (YCC) is a youth-adult advisory
board that addresses issues and needs related to school-age
youth in District 196. YCC meets monthly during the school
year, except in December. Youth have a special opportunity
on the council to voice their concerns; youth co-chairs provide
leadership to the group. Youth membership is made up of representatives
from the districts secondary schools. Adult representation
includes professionals who work with youth in the community,
interested parents and school district personnel.
