ROSEMOUNT, Minn. – Seventeen District 196 high school students had top finishes at state business competitions earlier this month and qualified for national competitions that will be held later this spring.

Thirteen students from Rosemount High School had top four finishes at the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) state competition March 3-5 in Minneapolis. More than 100 students competed in each business- and marketing-related event and the top four finishers in each event qualified for the DECA International Career Development Conference April 27-30 in Orlando.

Qualifiers from Rosemount in individual DECA events are Emma Dewitt in business services marketing series, Nyah Rudd in hotel lodging series and Sydney Essler in retail merchandising. Team event qualifiers from Rosemount are Alexander Gilley and Akash Shiri in buying and merchandising, Lilly Parla and Nicole McFee in hospitality, Olivia Gernandt and Katelyn Dwyer in marketing management, Adam DeGrote and Niklas Barrett in sports and entertainment marketing, and Olivia Alberts and Rose Sieve in travel and tourism.

The Business Professionals of America (BPA) state conference was held March 7-9 in Minneapolis. Four students from Eastview and Eagan high schools had top finishes at the state conference and qualified for the BPA National Leadership Conference May 1-5 in Anaheim.

Qualifiers from Eastview are Brianna Cairns and Will Leach in fundamental accounting and Annie Mason in payroll accounting. Sriram Nutulapati of Eagan qualified in Java programming.

DECA is an international association of high school and college students and teachers of marketing, management and entrepreneurship in business, finance, hospitality, and marketing sales and service. The organization helps prepare students for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, management and other business areas through a variety of activities and competitions. BPA is a cocurricular organization for students pursuing careers in business management, office administration, information technology and other related career fields.
