ROSEMOUNT, Minn. – For the third year in a row, the District 196 Finance Department has received the Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) from the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International.

The MBA program promotes and recognizes excellence in school budget presentation. The award is conferred only on school districts that have met or exceeded the program’s stringent criteria, following a rigorous review by professional auditors. This year’s award is for the 2017-18 budget year.

“The MBA serves as a gold-star designation and promotes continuous improvement,” said ASBO International Executive Director John Musso. “The application process helps school officials create an easy-to-read, accurate budget document that clearly communicates the district’s goals and objectives, and builds credibility and trust with their community.”

District 196 Director of Finance and Operations Jeff Solomon credits Finance Coordinator Christopher Onyango-Robshaw and the entire Finance Department staff for the work they did to earn this prestigious recognition.

The preliminary and final budgets for 2017-18 are available on the Finance Department page of the District 196 website at www.District196.org, along with budgets and finance documents for the previous nine years.

The District 196 Finance Department has also received ASBO’s Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for 15 years in a row for the preparation and issuance of the district’s comprehensive annual financial report.
