Transportation appreciation week

Whereas: Independent School District 196 Transportation Department employs approximately 293 people and operates 225 vehicles, making it the largest school district-owned bus fleet in Minnesota;

Whereas: Our transportation employees support students in several vital roles, including bus drivers, chaperones, vehicle technicians and office staff;

Whereas: Our transportation employees travel approximately 2.6 million miles a year, transporting more than 22,000 students twice every school day, to and from more than 5,500 bus stops throughout the district;

Whereas: For many students, the first and last district employee they see each day is a Transportation Department employee, and

Whereas: Our transportation employees work with students, parents, teachers and administrators as an essential part of the District 196 team.

Therefore, be it resolved: The School Board of Independent School District 196, Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan Public Schools, hereby extends its appreciation to the transportation employees of District 196 for the vital role they play in supporting the education of our students to reach their full potential, and declares October 16-20, 2017 to be Transportation Employees Appreciation Week.
