The District 196 Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC) has open positions for district staff and parents who have a child with special needs. The terms are for two years, beginning this fall. Members can serve consecutive terms.

The Special Education Advisory Council represents the interests of district learners with disabilities from birth through age 21; advises the Special Education Department on current issues, program development, parental concerns and involvement; serves as an advocate for high-quality special education programs, and promotes communication between family, school and community.

The council consists of 20-25 people, including district parents, community representatives, students with disabilities and school staff. Approximately half of the members are parents and parent advocates of diverse disability areas. The council is scheduled to meet four times during the 2016-17 school year. Meetings will be held on the following Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m.: Sept. 22, Dec. 8, Jan 26 and April 27.

Persons interested in being considered for membership on the Special Education Advisory Council must complete an application that is available on the district website or by calling 651-423-7631.
