Area Learning Center Students
The Area Learning Center is a 200 member school for:
* Students who have not experienced success in the traditional school program but want to earn a high school diploma.
* Students who want an opportunity to exercise personal responsibility for their education.
* Students who have dropped out of school.
* Students who are pregnant or parenting.
Area Learning Students are expected to:
* Be respectful towards peers and staff.
* Attend classes daily.
* Actively participate in class discussions and activities.
* Complete academic work.
* Follow the ALC guidelines.
* Show consistent progress towards completing graduation requirements.
* Participate in community involvement projects.
Area Learning Center Students have an opportunity to:
* Earn a high school diploma.
* Combine school and a job (earning .5 credit per term if employed and working an average of 10 hours per week).
* Improve academic and vocational skills.
* Maximize creative talent.
* Receive career, academic and personal counseling.
* Learn through individualized and small group instruction.
* Develop and define social skills.
* Explore post high school options.
* Establish responsible patterns to make positive life choices.
SWAS refers to a program otherwise known as School Within a School. This program is for our students who are 14-15 years old. SWAS students work closely with their advisor, Cheryl Rohs, to monitor their individual progress. Once a student turns 16, he/she is eligible to move out of SWAS.
