Teachers will greet the children at the front school doors at 8:30 a.m. Children will not be allowed into the building until this time. This opportunity is funded by a state grant, so there is no charge for classes. Students must be eligible and be recommended by their classroom teacher for the program. Bus transportation will not be provided.
The classes students will rotate through are:
Art:
ART will offer drawing for children through the eyes of an illustrator. The children will learn how to observe subjects with an "artist's eye", taking note of the many details, color, shape, and texture of ordinary objects.
The students would observe real illustrators work from familiar children's books. They would learn to identify the medium used by taking part in a variety of projects that focus on the particular technique that the artist has used.
Computer:
Computer games will provide basic skills practice in reading and math.
Choreographers and Gamers:
Get active and have fun dancing along with your favorite songs. Dance your way to good health with the help of DDR and computer activities. Use fun games to practice reading and math skills. Play games to exercise your brain! From Blokus to SET to Bananagrams to Jigsaw puzzles, rev up your critical and creative thinking skills and have fun at the same time. Games will have a reading and math focus.
WeDO Lego Robotics:
This is a class where students use the Lego building blocks to build and program a working model. There are 12 different models to build in the kits ranging from birds to cranes. These activities help students to think creatively to make a working model. The students will develop vocabulary and communication to explain how the model works.
