| Mrs. Braun is a Reading Recovery teacher. Reading is an important life skill and I hope that you will read with and to your child every day. Your child should have a book home with him/her every day and should read it to you 3-5 times each night for first graders. Older kids should read 10-30 minutes a day. Reading Recovery students also bring home a sentence to assemble each night and return to school the next day. Students should read this sentence to parents, family, and friends. Ask your child what might happen in the story. What does the child expect to learn? Ask them if this is how they thought the story should end. What did happen in the story? Talk about the pictures. Has the child had an experience similar to the story or been to the place the story took place? Above all, enjoy the story together. Talk about it. Enjoy reading! |
