Mrs. Griglak's Fantastic First Grade!

Check out what is happening in our class!

Wow! October Already!

We have set routines, expectations, and are working hard. Guided reading groups began this past week. Friday math homework will be in Friday Folders starting this week and reading book bags have begun going home. Please remember that your child can select new books to take home as soon as the book bag is returned to school. Your child is encouraged to take two books home at a time. One should be selected with me and is at his or her reading level. The other may be any book they would like. The second book may be too easy or too hard, but it is meant to be for their interest and enjoyment to help develop a strong love for books!

The math homework will begin easy and as the year progresses it will become more challenging. I also offer extension homework to challenge their math thinking. Students may choose to take math extension homework or it may be strongly encouraged by me (and you).

We have begun our study of animals. We are all becoming zoologists! We had a zoologist visit with some animals from the MN Zoo last week and now we are beginning to study different aspects of animals in our classroom. We have two zoo field trips planned to enhance and support our learning.
Each child will be selecting one animal to study more in-depth and focus on throughout our unit of study.

Conferences have been scheduled and reminders will be sent home soon. I look forward to meeting with all of you!
